Ayn Rand....

@freemo Very misunderstood, and not at all someone I agree with.

@freemo except for her stance on Abortion. I'm cool with that.

@Surasanji I dont agree with everything she said. But she also hit on a lot of truths people seem to be at odds with.

@freemo My favorite thing is that some of the right-wing types who are like 'She was a genius!' seem to also completely be unaware she was a fairly ardent feminist and was 100% Pro-choice.

@Surasanji I generally found her brand of feminism the ok kind. I am pro-choice in the first 8 weeks, which really doesnt line up with her view but thats ok. I dont consider myself right-wing though either.

@freemo
I'm assuming that based on all her female characters from Atlas Shrugged.

@freemo I know who she is. I also know her ideas have caused a lot of needless trouble. So I am lacking an option to pick.

@marnanel The best ideas are the ones that cauee a lot of "needless" trouble among those who think the trouble needless.

@freemo Where is the "She believed selfishness was the greatest virtue" option?

@jford1906

First iff, the lack of negative options was the joke.

Second, A person who is truely selfish, skillfully selfish, will act exceedingly generously and kind. Bei g generous and kind to others is also benefit you the most. The kinder you are to those around you the more they will help you in return. While being selfish might mean if your starving you dont give away your last meal, that also means you survive another day to be able to continue doing good for others.

That is why it is called "altruistic egoism". It is more appropriate to say caring about ones self, if done with skill, must include altruism.
