@design_RG I can go way farther back, 1442 for sure, but even father than that though its a bit less certain.
My lineage is technically (though at this point im very distant) royalty. So by extension of that there is a lot in the history books about my ancestors that makes it easy to trace once you get back to the Armigers and all that stuff.
@design_RG Here is mention in the history books of one of my ancestors from 1442, a direct male ancestor.
@design_RG You can also see one form of our Coat of Arms there. In this case due to marriage it is a combination of the 4 houses coat of arms. The Coat of Arms that is specific to my lineage is attached rendered with colors.
Being an Armiger myself means my male history is actually really easy to follow.
@freemo Wow, wonderful!
Imagine that, to be able to learn about ancestors going so far back. Luckily they were prominent, and figure in the registers and history text.
More common folks can't be traced so well, I imagine. Church records, but these are fragile and you might lose track easily. Congratulations, this is impressive.
@design_RG Youd be surprised. YEa common folk gets tricky sometimes, but not always.
The key dpeends on WHERE they are from. If you ancestry is int he UK there is likely record way back. If you come from italy.. well good luck getting those records without traveling the world!
@freemo My ancestors lived in Portugal, rural region, I don't know much farther than my grandfather's generation.
Do feel right at home when I visit, family has been there for ages. Centuries, millenia.
@design_RG The family that is a live means far more than the ones that are dead anyway
@freemo @design_RG
Just wondering? If I may ask, have you had any reason to thumb through Nederlands Patricciaat? -- see https://nl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nederland%27s_Patriciaat
@freemo @design_RG so cool!
@freemo And he lived to 92 years old, in that time that's so rare. Wonderful.
@design_RG My family histry is actually rather cool, partly because we can trace it so far back (to the crusades). virtually everyone in my male line up to myself appears in history books, most of which recount lineage.

@freemo That is so neat. To be able to trace your ancestor's history that far back, and that he probably had a very interesting life. Wow.
