@stefanodazzan sì, lo so.

@mcp @MariuzzoAndrea @bibliogadda @stefanodazzan

@treleonora sono su friendica, mentre tu sei su mastodon. Io posso creare collegamenti ipertestuali e formattazione, tu invece no (ma puoi comunque vedere i collegamenti ipertestuali)

@mcp @MariuzzoAndrea @bibliogadda @stefanodazzan

@macfranc

Sono su (Mastodon) e posso usare [Markdown](daringfireball.net/projects/ma) che tu dovresti vedere **correttamente** *renderizzato*.

😝

@treleonora @mcp @MariuzzoAndrea @bibliogadda @stefanodazzan@mastodon.uno

Just to clarify we arent on an old release. Our version doesnt track mastodon, and you are correct we are not a mastodon instance we are a fork. So our version is not an indication of how "up to date" we are.

And yes we have features from many different "standards" and quite a few unique ones as well.

Kinda laughable the over-the-top comment though, would love to see an example of that.

Ok, this factually confirms my statement "qoto.org is not a mastodon instance"! at this point, I wonder if it's right or not to still call it mastodon...

And yes we have features from many different "standards" and quite a few unique ones as well.

I agree: some of the features of qoto.org are really very interesting: some features work even better than they work in Friendica (which I prefer anyway), others are not present even in Friendica. For me, qoto.org remains platypus soup, but it's still a very fun experiment.

Kinda laughable the over-the-top comment though, would love to see an example of that.

Well, let's say that posts like this have left me somewhat perplexed...

@Shamar @treleonora @mcp @MariuzzoAndrea @bibliogadda @stefanodazzan

@macfranc

It is not a mastodon instance, it is a fork of mastodon. The proper thing to refer to it as is "a fork of mastodon".

I dont mind you calling it "platypus soup" though i wonder what that is meant to convey... Many of the features we have QOTO was the first to develop, some we were the first to add to mastodon, others we borrowed from other platforms that set the standard.So im not sure QOTO is anymore of a "playpus soup" than any other fediverse software, we chose what features we wanted that were already out there, and added our own, thats all.

What perplexes you about that post, I made sure to clarify and backup any claim I made with evidence and screenshots. Most people are upset about it because Eugen is usually very much the politician, so he generally has a good public image despite repeatidly making many questionable decisions behind the scenes where he has thrown instances under a bus just to appease the crowd. It works well for his agenda actually and usually causes people to come to his defense when someone calls him out.

Okay! 😀

The definition "platypus soup" refers to something strange, something evolved in a different way and made up of different pieces.

Some fediverse software is "strange", but qoto.org is "very strange". Maybe only Bonfire is weirder (by the way, nice project... you'd like it!)
To your knowledge, are there any other instances running the same qoto.org fork?

I am the administrator of three small instances of three different software: Friendica and Lemmy above all, but also Mastodon (albeit with a thematic instance: by the way, mine too is aimed at the world of research). You can well understand that I don't appreciate all the Gargron choices and my least favorite is the positioning of Mastodon as the industry standard. However, I believe that your tolerance towards some free speech instances was a gamble that penalized your instance more than it improved its environment.

People have asked about setting up our code before and I know for a time some people did run forks of QOTO,. I dont recall the instances or even they are still up though. That said I do know of many instances that have taken code from QOTO.

As for our choice to let our users decide federation rather than the main admin, I dont disagree it was a gamble and has caused some to throw shade at us. However as I explained it came as adirect response and the at the request of our LGBTQ community. They made a clear argument why that choice was neccesary for their safety, and we decided their safety was the priority over any effect on public opinion. So while you arent wrong about your accessment of that choice I would argue it was still the correct choice.

What is concerning is Gargron basically thought that decision, one in which our LGBTQ communities safety was prioritized over popular opinion, is one he felt punishing exclusively due to popular opinion (he was aware of our stance for years and approved of it right until people started to break out the cancel culture nonsense).
