@rchrd My baretta 92x performancd defensive is my best overall, adustable trigger easy breakdown, customizatiomn options, and hits the target.
Now if all i care about is shooting id say my kimber 1911 is a very close second.
@freemo ooh kimbers are nice
@rchrd Yea its great. the drawback seems to be int he 1911 design in general, just not easy to field strip.. otherwise seems like a nice platform and amazing when the kimber makes it.
@freemo It's also a very old design. I think the popularity is more from its use as a standard military sidearm in WWI/II moreso than its ergonomics/accessibility.
@LouisIngenthron I can see some reasons the design might be popular with some. A good exampleis that it is one of the few only single action pistols (most are DA or DA+SA)... for some that may be a safety feature (as it is hard to accidentally go off if you uncock it). The single stack also gives it a nice feel in the hand.
But I agree, if all platforms came out today for the first time I dont think 1911 would come out on top, and its the historic aspects thatlikely cause that overall.
@freemo Are you removing the trigger group? I have never used tools to 'field strip' the M 1911.
@Pjcoyle Nope. The little piece you need to take out to take off the top slide (the same button you hit to release the slide) doesnt come out very easily and requires a tool to push it out.
@freemo Okay, most of my experience was with military weapons that are notoriously loose. I did not have problems with that on my personal gold-cup.
@Pjcoyle I even tried oiling it, but alas, I cant easily get it out
@freemo I did a handgun-off one day back when. We brought everything. The colt government 1911. Two glocks, the 23 (compact .40) and 17 (full frame 9mm) a sig 2022 (compact 40) a Ruger mark 2 .22, a Smith and Wesson .357, and a Beretta 92 9mm and probably a couple of others I don't remember.
Surprisingly the best gun of the day in a unanimous vote was the Beretta. That thing was great. It shot where you pointed it every single time.
The Glocks are easiest to strip and clean by far tho.
