RETRO COMPUTING MUSIC
ARCHIVE LIST OF EVERYTHING ON MASTODON!

I aim to centralise ALL the RETRO people in 1 post for older "chiptune" game music
+ all the hashtags for the game music and machines so people can go and find more or see what's on Mastodon

One post for all!

Do let me know if this misses any old console hashtgs or people with real retro music passion!)
(I will look at my following and pick the names out... luckily in the avatar it's really easy to spot RETRO GAMES / EARLY COMPUTING people!

THIS POST WILL BE REVISED -
TURN NOTIFICATIONS ON!

OK LET'S GO - SO FAR I HAVE THIS:

A couple of bots by @confusedbunny posting chiptune music tracks from the Atari ST and ZX Spectrum:

➡️ @AtariSTMusic - Music from the Atari ST, posts once a day

➡️ @AYMusic - Music from the ZX Spectrum, posts every four hours

OTHER THOUGHTS:
Somehow I'm not totally into just games but the nostalgia + music is 100% nice and I work in between listening while doing the "real" work or play in life (between people in life- not just games... so let's not go there... yet! Just enjoy together!)

@confusedbunny ADDING NOTES AS I GO
WILL RE-FORMAT / SHORTEN soon

"CrackIntros" show the undergrounds group of talented people for their programming / code, art and music skills of the time inside their intros / credits.

A crack intro, also known as a cracktro, a loader, or just plain "intro" - is a small introduction sequence added to cracked software. It aims to inform the user which "cracking crew" or individual cracker removed the software's copy protection and distributed the release.

@freeschool I have those accounts set so that any favourites/boosts will stop the post expiring - recommend doing this for any you like.

@confusedbunny
Guess that's on the newer Mastodon version... So what is the idea with your videos... to save only favourites / boosted - I guess the others are eventually is deleted (?)

@freeschool Yes, just to reduce impact on the server. I can't remember the timeframe, might be anything over one month gets deleted (if not faved/boosted).

@confusedbunny
I think it's really important to say on your profile and state explicitly that: "The idea with my video content is that those that are favourited / boosted music stay online - the others are deleted automatically after a month or so" (or however you want to work it...)

... because people assume things are permanent / not subject to much change (until recently Mastodon introduced this ability for example)

As habits I also don't favorite as often as I should (not sure if I did yours) because reply or interact more often / always so the gauging of popularity is variable...

but overall if it's just a temporary thing... not an archive and something continually rolling that's cool too.. (just wasn't clear from start / was just you saying by chance / me asking by chance).

Happy to think about this more out loud see what's possible overall as any kind of 'thing'
but doesn't have to have more meaning sometimes also thn what it is - just thought I'd mention it.

@freeschool Yes, good idea, I've added that.

I consider that people generally don't scroll back very far into history, so wanted the older posts to be ones that were liked more - just keeping them for the sake of it fills up the server for little benefit (important when the server is being run by an individual). As it's random, things tend to come back round anyway!

@confusedbunny I like it. I like the methodology a lot.
Things also tend to be good fresh / rotated for the human aspect of doing things in the now rather than going back in time...

Hmmm :ablobthinking: :ablobthinkingeyes: 🤔 :blobthinking:

...that's probably key to a lot of things... temporary repeating rotating or... hmm need to think about that one for my content...

@blueplanetslittlehelper @confusedbunny
Awesome - it sound like it's done by Abba almost! With some almost slap-bass-type-stuff at 1.20 !
Isn't quite retro as in game but was appreciated and I'm gonna play it again to get most out of it :)

@freeschool @confusedbunny
Must be due to the same time frame, I think (even if the goal was futuristic music). This was composed by the German Christian Bruhn in 1980. idk if he made something for ABBA, too.

@freeschool
I didn't know that every language version not only translated the words but made their own music, too. The French version is vastly different, see yewtu.be/watch?v=w5VGepGak-c
I don't like it, maybe due to the lyrics (I don't speak French but it goes on my nerves).
@confusedbunny

@blueplanetslittlehelper
Lol I'm starting to learn a lot about your tastes and reasonings but this goes well from me right from the start until 1min and yes it's more lyrics than music so not quite the fantasy korean / japanese / asian foot-tapping kareoke music :) lol what to call it!
hehe funky

@freeschool
Since idk what you mean with "fantasy korean / japanese / asian foot-tapping karaoke music" I can't say something about it, but I like my (German) version of the intro to the anime series (without any lyrics) much better, am used to it and feel nostalgia when hearing it - so I'm biased to the French one, maybe?
There are other animes from my childhood with lyrics in their soundtracks that I rather endured than liked (Maya the Honey bee, fi), by the way. But not all 🤷

@blueplanetslittlehelper
yeah has it's limits also in this genre which is why I think nostalgia can stay as that and not need be reborn constantly or on repeat unless in the mood or really liking it.

@freeschool of course not constantly. I didn't think of this for quite a long time. But now I am hooked again and bask a bit more, and then this phase will be over again.
Christmas time is normally the time where those nostalgic feelings come out - I blame it on the TV program.

@freeschool The composer of the above mentioned soundtrack from "Maya the Honey bee" is Karel Svoboda btw, who made another of my favourite soundtracks (again, without lyrics): yewtu.be/watch?v=FOMw0Fy10UY
Thanks for bringing up this topic, I am browsing the whole time (instead of working) and basking in nostalgia.
