@bloc I see a lot of folks referring to #nextcloud but I'd never heard of it before. I'm going to search on it for now but thanks for adding another straw to the camel's back. 🙂
@bloc So this is #nextcloud ? https://nextcloud.com/ It is quite intriguing. I'm tempted. Are hosting sites like GoDaddy prepared to run nextcloud or what is the best way to start?
@mguhlin
There's a couple of ways to do so I guess, starting by self-hosting on a Raspberry Pi. #nextcloud is available as Docker image, packages for various Linux distributions and a couple of others. Personally, I am hostong this on a root server at a hoster. Several hosters even provide instances as a service.
@mguhlin
#nextcloud aims to become a somewhat replacement to M365 and the like. It started out as a self-hostable file sharing platform (fork of #owncloud) but has, thanks to being extensible via add-ons, added a vast amount of functionality since and has become a full-featured #collaboration platform. For some time now, it also gained the ability to federate with other servers.
I've been running my own instance for some years now, although I've not yet had the chance to participate in federation.
