What video game should I play?

Constraints:

- This will be on Windows.
- I'm particularly interested in either (a) a wargame that's about maneuvering my units rather than climbing a tech tree or diploming with seven other factions or (b) something where I'm operating a vehicle (car, spaceship, whatever) but that is easier than actually getting a pilot's license.
- I'm not interested in retro games.

@antares I tried, but that definitely fell into the "getting a pilot's license" category. I don't want to do 20 hours of tutorials before I can have any fun. I mean, crikey, this "essential starter guide" is 9 pages long:

Also, give me missions, not this open world "track the prices of 40 commodities across 200 star systems" stuff.

I really *wanted* to like Elite Dangerous, but obviously I had a bad experience.

@lucifargundam These are possibilities. Is the learning curve gentle?

What are the differences between the two? Is there a reason to choose one game over the other?

<< Imo yes, you should be fine.

<< Inquisitor is newer and a different story(same universe). Some mechanics are different. If you tune in now, you can see the developer play live on the store page.
