The ISS is perfectly legal with a license, which I have used to contact them.
You also do not need high power at all, you can do it with fairly low power.
Could have sworn it was illegal to interfere with their comms because of safety reasons pertaining to the timeliness of vital systems information.
Their personal comms would be illegal to interfere with, and take place on private channels yes.
But they have public comms on the station that operate 24/7 that are legal to communicate with and are on HAM radio bands.. Talking to the ISS is something quite a few hams do every time it is overhead.
@peterdrake I've had less trouble printing from Linux than Windows in recent years... Now if you manage to figure out where I can set the printer's default paper size to A4 instead of US letter on a windows 10 machine set to English, that will be impressive! 😜
Of course we are taking about paper printing yes? My 3d printers run Linux onboard, so I'd be worried if they have trouble communicating with other Linux systems 😅
@goeland86 (Yes, paper printing.)
@peterdrake@qoto.org It's amazing how plug and play Linux has become. So far my dad's not complaining about the OS at all when I force-installed Linux Mint on his computer.
@peterdrake
Now try sending messages to #iss . That's fun/illegal ;) But if you know Linux and have a high-powered ham station, it's relatively easy if you know what you're doing!
