It takes a lot of time to do all the drone shots and videography. I imagine that 20 miles into the ride he realized it would take him five days to finish the course at that pace. He had to dispense with it and focus on covering ground.
I'm very impressed with what he produced by himself, essentially on the fly. He could probably find work in Hollywood.
