If all email users (2.3 billion people) deleted just 10 emails that would save 38,035 metric tonnes of CO2 emissions. That's approximately equivalent to 19356 tonnes of coal burnt
So how does it work?
Emails are usually stored at multiple servers around the world, the servers are stored at big data centres that use tons of electricity to keep the servers running. The electricity is generated by fossil fuels which then results in carbon emissions.
So here's how you can help:
• delete unwanted mails
• unsubscribe from mailing list which you don't find interesting
• empty bin and spam folder on regular basis
Let's contribute to save the earth.

Okay but how about #deleteFacebook updates.
Your #failbook, #birdsite and #youScrewed updates are stored in numerous #datacenters all around the world. They are sold to the highest bidders. They are run through #dataAnalytics and numerous algorithms that waste #energy, and produce #CO2. They are used to sell stuff and candidates that will destroy the environment.
