@freemo you seem like a physics buff. Tell me, how would you recommend I learn the physics of RF and waves and signals using a radio and SDR kit? Is it worth it to do it that way? Any suggestions?

Goal: make a radio and hook it to an mcu, write a library to decode digital radio signals using said radio, and essentially have make my own digital radio scanner. Additionally, I'd like to have an option to do some signal processing to change my voice when using the radio for transmitting.

If you just want to make a radio you could follow existing schematics easy enough. I take it you want a deeper understanding than that however?

@freemo correct. An almost "from scratch" understanding as if we had a nuclear Holocaust and I had to understand it enough to be able to recreate rudimentary radio communication.

@zpartacoos
You will want to start with analog circuit analysis techniques most likely. Do you know dc/digital electronics.

@freemo not anymore. I took electronics in HS but forgot most of it (probably didn't lear it properly)

You will want to go back to the basics and understand DC and digital electronics first. Learn your ohms law and kirchoffs laws, get the basics down. They will be needed to move on to analog/rd
