@nergal what do you mean by "don't work" ? Is your install broken? Do you need to reinstall your SDKs ?

@nergal it is a misstatement, it is an ide that installs with a compiler and obfuscated it from the end user. And it is several compilers because unlike gcc they have different ones for each language ccl and cs and so forth.

@kitty well, first of all, if you are not self hosting then download (early and often) your contacts list. If people have freedom then when they are paying for the resources to run an instance then it is their bat, and ball and consequently their rules and choices, as long as they are not a government actor. While lists are great and all, but I am not sure that is how the federation works.

@ozoned @nergal well gnu is his baby, and if he says it is a duck billed platipus then that's what it is :) As for his world view and other political opinions, I have no kcuFs nor rolling doughnuts for them to go through.

@kitty cuz they can? People like power. If they are either trying to create a safe space or an echo chamber it will help to isolate their instance from dissenting opinions and statements.

@ozoned @nergal I think rms would strongly disagree with that statement.

@nergal if you find them they are lies :) can't you just run a process monitor and watch what it calls. Documents are either written for marketing or for indoctrination to make you think the way they want you to think to get you tied into their tech with no hope of escaping :)

@nergal just trying to answer your hypotheticals. I never know if you are looking for answers or are just trying to make a point rhetorically. So I just do the best I can. :)

@nergal neither VS nor MsBuild are compilers. Msb if I remember correctly either calls or replaces nmake. VS is an ide that calls either nmake or MsBuild and depending on your language uses the compilers that are in the SDKs such as ccl or whatever the c# one is called. But take a peek at SharpDevelop instead whose full source is available and presumably calls all the same compilers and so forth.

@nergal true enough but it uses a modified Linux kernel.

@snerber in the US there quite the fetish in the search for unicorns. Although unwanted advances could arguably be considered by some as violence. Pretty sure it doesn't compare to what is going on in Brazil so, maybe I would simply be better off just withdrawing my statement.

@nergal Android and of you want to count WSL then M$ Windows. Just 2 that come to mind. Is this in reference to calling it GNU/Linux? There is a whole world of butthurt behind that issue. Perhaps rightfully so, credit where credit is due and all that.

@LemonLimeLorange @ivesen Ada is the shizzle! COBOL whips the llama's ass! C is still awesome.

@snerber depends on your definition of violence and that of "world over".

@garywright2 I hope you survived the Hurricane okay. :) Welcome.

@Absinthe @alex Yes we have a discourse server. No sadly discourse doesnt federate however there has been talk about writing a plugin for it that does. Since it is the most likely service to federate int he future and the easiest one to hack to make it federate it is usually what we and other instances in the fediverse use.
