Somehow Uvale keeps getting worse. The egregious police delays cascaded into delays getting medical responders in place to help anyone, and the complete lack of leadership was catastrophic for coordinating their resources.

Real world tragedies aren’t a game; they aren’t oneupmanship and puzzle-solving and they’re rarely solved by retreating to our comfort zones.
Imagine the reaction if a wartime leader who emphasizes being in this together with his armies fighting an existential struggle and his people freezing in the dark glided in in a tailored Armani suit. I’m sure he would have been beyond criticism then.

Madison Square Garden used facial recognition to identify and stop a mom from attending a Christmas show with her kid because she's an attorney at a firm who is engaged in litigation with them.
This is why it's not enough to just ban government and law enforcement use of #facialrecognition. There are so many ways private companies and even individuals can abuse #biometric #surveillance tech.

@Davidtoddmccarty I still dip in and collect/spread stories chronicling the trainwreck, supply basic info to users curious about other sites but quite put off by the “select a server” step of Mastodon registration, block every advertiser I see, and check in on favorite accounts that haven’t transitioned here at this time. I’ve resigned myself that weaning is going to be a process until a tipping point is reached.

I think the biggest thing about Mastodon that I'm enjoying is the normalizing of dialogue. Questions aren't dunks, they're inquiries to understand better. A perhaps not the best stated phrase is still taken with positive intent. And the atmosphere really does focus on uplifting voices, rather than finding the next target.
All of the above has exceptions, of course, but after all exceptions prove the rule.
