It's mind-blowing that ever since the golden age of technological advancement humanity's research speed not only haven't slowed down, but is constantly accelerating.
Computing speed increases our ability to design systems with even more computing speed. Material research makes other material research easier. And when the two combine, we get stuff like TFLOPS _personal processors_ and computer-simulated 2D materials.
And this happens to pretty much all branches of research.
And results in higher accessibility to increasingly powerful research tools like 3D printers and CAD software for the general populace, multiplying the technology by the sheer number of people able to use it.
It's like we're zerg-rushing all the mysteries of the universe, and it's working. If no apocalyptic event happens in the upcoming decades, we'll literally transcend our animal origins, our limitations and even our planet, producing a lot of cool shit in the process and hopefully fixing most of our mistakes so that the planet part won't be a necessity.
We might or might not live in The Worst Timeline, but we've done pretty well despite all our disadvantages. It's nice to think about when being drowned from all sides with information of our shortcomings.
Military or tax based for income... and then the rest.
@Amikke
I like your upside and positive perspective about it.
Not sure it's all cool shit on the tech front (cool to look at from inanimate picture perhaps so some of the tect) but without changing what you said well I wanted to say:
it's all military inspired / damage driven and then filtered for domestic use after (they get best planes/batteries first and make weaker version or classify it as safe / domestic when it's not solving / saving too much - unless it's on the battlefield in which case full power and speed captain ! )
Blaming the military / army seems harsh but really the people behind it (the inheritors before us calling the shots) - those people / governments are giving first meaning to the rest of the stuff that follows for (resources abroad and 'agreements'...) and they would never arm the domestic population more than their own military 'defense'.... so it's always bit behind what they actually have probably. And probably why people do all these PhD to give people a scouts badge for inventing the the next technology)
Sorry if that seems changing what you meant but I really liked how neutral you wrote it and trying to keep it pleasant here too!
Military or tax based for income... and then the rest.
Read on for more solider or turn back.
The reasoning and speed of research (connected back to state and money etc) accounts for much of this stuff first (and then entertainment for us later given % back in tax for everything helping the 24/7 war effort in various ways)
Every day I am hoping we can convert a lot of that acceleration ("the war on... xyz") back to human understanding and allowing for individuality so we can all be more responsible and more sovereign (which strangely doesn't need much tech) ....and finding what we like to do minus the mental / physical rape from 9-5 soldier routine).
Then we can avoid wars (locally and externally) by using friendly power and feelings and be a bit more self-sufficient-minded and somehow not use those very techniques and systems which are un-individualistic or anti-individualistic.
Because systematic patterns get what they want by cutting such humanness and making lines.
But anyway the new YouTubeTV is great though I was also happy hearing the .dial-up connection from modem before...
And just today I thought about your last sentence which puts it nicely about the burden of info-tech - and on my side I see this all-you-can-eat information and video as overwhelming / tempting for some ... though I'm minimising it well like removing drivers from graphics card to avoid playing any games ! Or even if it's free trying not to surf now!
But others are consuming massive amounts just for creating 1 video or putting double digit megabyte pictures in directories from not setting a lower res... defaults as HD... crazy
Even tech people wise enough backing up sickening amounts of up / down stream bandwidth a few times a day from America of all places -
that's a type of war itself or at least in traffic / energy drain / duplication / bloat... and maybe I wouldn't mind if I got to talk to people a bit more but they are ALL mostly scared (AND machine focussed). We're obviously allowed to do some things otherwise they would have curbed it too already)
Anyway if the conversion of habit can go back to people talking to each other (not just text filters) and finding better things to do like practising sorting of emotions tolerating people, 'upgrading brain' and growing minds FOR UNDERSTANDING PEOPLE TOTAL COMPASSION... more people really implementing it... THEN YEAH I'd be appreciative of that.
I might have to write to Santa again for this one...
...THEN "all would be well" ...
If you want a video (lol) then see this video below to help show what I've said better since the original way things are funded by first #war #military #governments #banks #economy way etc... is this very easy / digestible info showing the ups and down of life and some technologies relative to war / economy / progress / decline...
@Amikke
It's not so mind blowing, this kind of things happened before, with agricultural and industrial revolutions.
We are just a few decades in this information revolution.
The speed of research and innovation will, eventually, slow down.
