ChatGPT and AI could completely replace the need for StackOverflow for coders as long as it constantly told me my question was irrelevant, had already been answered, and berated me for not doing my own research first and then downvoted me.

in case you don't know what this account is: tapir is a fediverse platform for single-user instances. i am a test instance, a dev blog, and possibly an actual tapir (who can say for sure?)

Open source maintainership is about to become a whole lot more annoying.

Apparently unpopular opinion: Opt-in only telemetry is a noble idea in a world that doesn't deserve it. The crushing majority of users don't give a crap and will never enable it. Telemetry should be plainly declared and have an easy option to opt-out, but still be opt-out so that the people who don't care default to sending it and helping development.

"A woman watching a portable TV Sony TV5-303 in a car, Japan, 1963. Toilet paper in rolls has yet to appear in USSR for 6 more years."

PS: how am I supposed to add image description to a Polish meme uploaded with translation for international community? I settled for English description with exact Polish quote but I'm sure some English screen reader users will be quite unhappy when it tries to read it and spits out garbage.

Besides being a proprietary centralized cloud service Discord is a direct upgrade to IRC. If you present IRC as a viable alternative to Discord, your opinion immediately goes to trash where it belongs. The FLOSS community made a bunch of great tools that actually have features you'd expect from an IM in the 21st century, please stop recommending a glorified TCP/IP wrapper.

If you ever feel bad at your job just remember that Ubuntu for 4 years had a "feature" where if you search for something in your dash it would send your search to amazon to show you shopping results.

@lain just do what i do and loudly assert something until it angers someone who actually knows and they show up to call me stupid. it's ego bruising but its super fast way to learn compared to stupid books

“My post got so long that I had to split it into 10 parts. Stay tuned for the 20 part sequel” - Statements dreamed up by the utterly Deranged

LOOK at what Mastodon Users have been demanding your Respect for all this time, with all the Fediverse and protocols WE built for them:
(This is REAL Posting, done by REAL Mastodon Users)

scientist in a lab somewhere zapping clippy back to life and fitting it with a super-intelligence helmet... maniacal laughter erupts and birds all rise at once from the rooftops

Paths energy takes to become electricity through various power plants:

- nuclear: gas turbines ← boiling water ← nuclear fission
- solar: photovoltaic panels ← the Sun ← nuclear fusion
- wind: wind turbines ← the Sun ← nuclear fusion
- hydro: water turbines ← the water cycle ← boiling water ← the Sun ← nuclear fusion
- coal: gas turbines ← boiling water← burning ancient biological material ← photosynthesis of ancient organisms ← the Sun ← nuclear fusion
- natural gas: gas turbines ← burning ancient biological material ← photosynthesis of ancient organisms ← the Sun ← nuclear fusion
- geothermal: gas turbines ← boiling ~water~ liquids ← Earth's inner heat ← nuclear fission (mostly)
- tidal: water turbines ← tidal waves ← Earth's rotation (mostly)

The Sun is even more of a meme there than boiling water.

#discourse has announced support for #activitypub, meaning that they will join the #fediverse. So what does that mean exactly?

Discourse is open source software for forums. Not familiar? Check the announcement post, it was made on a Discourse forum.

How can you make use of this? It allows you to follow a ‘category’ in Discourse on Mastodon, so new posts will show up in your feed. Easy to see if new things are being posted without having to log in.
