FreeBoardGames.org is mainly powered by https://boardgame.io, an #opensource #typescript engine for turn-based #games. One of the main devs, Chris, created this beautiful diagram to present the order of internal API calls in boardgame.io (see https://github.com/boardgameio/boardgame.io/issues/808#issuecomment-945141162).
The game mechanics are described using the concepts of "phases" and "stages" wherein players whose "turn" it is are allowed to make certain "moves". Several event hooks are called for each move and each stage change.

I hate macOS part 2137: keyboard layouts
- if you use a Dvorak and you're not just English-speaking, fuck you, you have to port your language's accents yourself to your custom keyboard layout
- your own keyboard layouts are in user space and not system space, so you can't use them in e.g. login screen
- if you use a keyboard layout from user space, the keyboard layout on your login screen sometimes randomly fallbacks to U.S.
- sometimes the login screen UI bugs and it says you use U.S. layout even though your keystrokes are a different layout
- there's no way to tell these 2 bugs apart
