@AmpBenzScientist Oh, it mainly knocks out your executive function and your feelings. You don't need that to be productive, if your productivity doesn't require you to exercise self control and sensitivity.
It's funny how I can orchestrate complex things on a computer, but not in real life. I have to lean on the computer (note app, calendar app, reminder app) as a crutch to remember how to live.
The scientists have found that the default mode network (daydream network) dominates in #ADHD brains. We're very easily bored and drift off quickly if nothing interesting is happening around us, in other words. It's like a computer with aggressive power saving settings. "You didn't use me for 2 minutes, so I'm asleep now."
It's a challenge to be like that when you're around people who are naturally organised and are operating according to a plan. Two opposing forces of nature: order and chaos. Interesting things can come from chaos. Chaos is flexibility and improvisation. People who have ADHD are masters of improvisation because they have to be.
There are limits to how far improvisation can take you though. The most impressive things start happening once you combine the two: There's a rehearsed part that you can execute without effort, which leaves room to improvise on top of it.
I'm not good at that. But if I was orderly, I wouldn't be so good at improvising. I wouldn't need that coping mechanism if I was good at executing everything according to plan.
I'm better than I used to be, and I think that comes with age. My father said he's become more patient with age too.
@AmpBenzScientist I haven't tried coding in that one but if I'm tasked with doing so, I will somehow know FORTRAN...
