@amyfou @tom_streeter makes me think that every state should put abortion up as a referendum item.

The unintended consequences of that are probably too great, but Kansas and Kentucky have certainly been pleasant surprises.

I’ve been following so many random people on here. The criteria seems to be “do you look like a sane person that isn’t going to start rattling off conspiracy theories” or “you look like you’ve taken a picture of a bird once”.

The collapse of Twitter is a system breakdown. Mastodon and the fediverse represent something different: _system change_. From for-profit "Big Tech" to nonprofit, open source, community-owned public spaces.

System change is always harder than you think. It always incurs short-term costs, with hoped for long-term benefits.

The next few weeks will be really tough for the fediverse. Stick around, vibe with it, and you just might help us put a huge part of the web back in community hands. <3

I've worked in Democratic politics, and I've run screaming away from that work only to return out of feelings of fear and obligation. Every election cycle, there's some moment when I start to feel guilty about stepping away from it and *just* being a voter. This time it hit on election eve.

Good luck America. Do what you can do to vote and help others vote, and no matter what, let's take care of each other better.

BREAKING NEWS: In what I believe is the most widespread election monitoring effort it has ever undertaken, the DOJ Civil Rights Division just announced that it will have officials in the field monitoring the polls in 24 STATES on Election Day.
