@StarTrekUnlimited very much looking forward to hearing about it ❤️ and glad to see you over here!
It is so pleasant to read through a timeline of updates from accounts I've chosen, without a sponsored or recommended post in every other slot. Feels like back when the whole social media thing was still more social than commercial, when I was still young and optimistic #TwitterMigration #OldInternet
Look closely at the center of this image. You probably noticed the bright spot in the center, the central protostar. But did you notice the dark band in front of it? That’s the protostar’s accretion disk, created as material swirls around it.
The material within this disk can sometimes clump up, forming the beginnings of planets. But the protostar will absorb many of these before they can mature.

@Geothinker 41 here, and with an almost-9 year old. I understand. It was taking my then-toddler to the park and watching all the other parents effortlessly socialize that pushed me into putting myself out there more. Thankfully he's turning out to be more naturally social than I am!
In appreciation of good friends: I got to see my dearest friend today for the first time in nearly a month, and suddenly the world is a much brighter place.
Making new friends as an adult is WORK (in person or, say, on a brand-new-to-you social media platform) but so very worth the effort. #gratitude
A few years ago I made this flow chart of which Mastodon posts end up in which timelines!
So, you can see how each instance will have a different local timeline, and even a slightly different federated timeline - and you can see why the federated timeline moves so much faster than the local one, too.
This is why it's important to boost good posts and use hashtags - the fediverse is fragmented and harder to search by nature.
@inspired I agree completely. Pleased to make you/your cat's acquaintance!
@obi One of these days, I will splurge for a fancy just-the-right-size chair, and/or a custom 27" desk. A long-term goal of mine is to one day actually have my feet touching the floor while I work. Standard office furniture seems to fit only a very narrow range of actual body sizes.
Anyone have #recommendations on budget-friendly desk chairs for short people? I had to bump my desk height up to 30" and my chair can't adjust high enough #ShortPeopleProblems
@EduCrave I'm glad you asked this - I've been wondering too. I picked qoto because my interests and profession are aligned with STEM, but realistically I mostly talk about cats and Star Trek.
I think the biggest learning curve of moving to Mastodon is going to be calling them toots with a straight face.
