I've reworked the brilliant translucent 3D printed snap diffuser cover design from @geekmomprojects for use on the smaller 1" Fibonacci128, and published it here: https://www.printables.com/model/754372-1-fibonacci128-snap-diffuser-cover
It's shown here next to the laser etched and cut black LED acrylic diffuser.
My article about building your own soft companion bot is now out in @makemagazine Vol 88. I'm especially proud to be published along with some of the absolutely coolest makers I know. @charlyn has a uniquely gorgeous pixel clock on the cover, @LaserMistress built a clever and disruptive portable graffiti projector, and @Leeborg has an amazing functional scaled-up Ouija board. I'm in great company!
Here are a few photos from the first soldering workshop we held in our space a week ago Thursday - it was so much fun! Robyn and I had a great time, the attendees were all smiling and delighted with their soldering, it was such an energy boost! Our next one is Sat Feb 10th, we’re in San Luis Obispo, check our website and pinned post for more details and to sign up!
Setting up my wearables installation with the CETI Institute in the Lloyd center (old GAP storefront) for the Portland Winter Lights Festival. Just need to clean up and tape down the power wires now. There are lots of other people setting up awesome original illuminated projects in the same space. If you're in the area, come by and check it out sometime this weekend. Info here: https://ceti.institute/event/constellations-2024/

@joeycastillo tiny!!
Super duper happy this morning to receive a GORGEOUS flower clock from @maketvee. It is hard to describe how stunning it is in person, and it comes with interchangeable faceplates, and can run in clock mode (right) or pattern mode.
🎶🎵
Don't cha wish you had a flower clock like me?
Don't cha wish your clock had LEDs?
Don't cha?
Don't cha? 😂

while preparing for class, I ran across a link in a previous semester's syllabus. Heilmeier's Catechism, which I hadn't heard of before, is a set of questions credited to engineer George Harry Heilmeier that anyone proposing a research project or product development effort should be able to answer. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/George_H._Heilmeier#Heilmeier.27s_Catechism
@joeycastillo oh those are fantastic.
For anyone in and around the Portland area, I will be running two different LED project workshops, open to the public, at the Winter Lights Festival in conjunction with the CETI institute the weekend of Feb. 3-4. Details/signups at the links below:

So I do make open source hardware, and everything that I eventually choose to sell will be open source by the time I do it. Still, sometimes I share my behind-the-scenes process behind a paywall, and this month the peek behind the curtain is a longtime white whale of mine: having an astonishingly thin, densely packed, totally bespoke custom LCD fabricated for Sensor Watch. A first look, complete with a half dozen photos, in the Patreon post: https://www.patreon.com/posts/custom-lcd-has-96925072
Hey friend; can you do me a personal favor?
