Hey #neurodon #neuroscience #neurotech #neuro @neuroscience

Let's make it easier for new members of the Mastodon network to find the #neuroscience (and former #neurotwitter) community. Consider adding yourself to this list of neuroscience accounts on #Mastodon

Seems like the #NeuroscienceMigration is in full swing so I'll do a quick #introduction. I'm a cognitive neuroscientist interested in biological mechanisms of disorders of memory and cognition, especially in aging and dementia. I love acetylcholine, prefrontal cortex, data analysis, R, and musical theater.

#NeuroscienceMigration friends, I hope you will find yourselves migrating at 9pm on Monday November 14 to #sfnbanter22 at Sidebar (536 Market Street) in San Diego during #SfN2022 🧠✨🎉🍸

With happening, two resources I've found:
(1) twitodon.com: register with them to link your twitter and mastodon accounts. Then it will find (and output an importable .csv of) the mastodon addresses of all of your twitter follows that have registered with them. The more of us that register, the better it works.
(2) fedifinder.glitch.me/: put your mastodon address in your twitter bio. Then fedifinder will find all your twitter follows (or followers, or lists) who have put their mastodon address in their twitter bio, and output a .csv of them as above.
(To import the csv: edit profile -> import and export -> import, and be sure that 'merge' is clicked.)

Excited to see everyone from the #neurosciencemigration !!!

I'm Keiland, working in systems #neuroscience using #electrophysiology. I mainly study the brain representations, circuits, and systems that help us learn, remember, plan, and make decisions.

I also use quite a fair bit of computation to do my work, and co-founded an #ai non-profit ContinualAI.

Hi friends -

Wanted to share some daily updates about #MedMastodon:

The exodus from #medtwitter continues: #MedMastodon users doubled for the second day in a row. I'm meeting many new people as well as seeing some familiar faces. This is exciting. It feels less like a ghost town and more like a real community. To all the newcomers, welcome!

Site reliability is much better today. I've scaled up our server & many features seem to be running more smoothly. Let me know if there are any problems.

I’m still just amazed at the quality of people I’ve met in such a short time in Mastodon. Real people. Sharing legitimate interactions, thoughts, and discussions. I honestly forgot that social media could be like this.

@nick @KateCushing I found an option on the web browser to subscribe specifically to the med-mastadon domain! If you go to Account Settings -> Followers and Subscriptions -> Domain Subscribes, it will put public posts onto your timeline. I am pretty sure it's working! :) I am not sure if it is the instance qoto-specific or not but give it a try!

@DrSuzanne I just am a little shocked by how nice everyone is being to us new people!
Thank-you! ❤️

Tip for the new folk:
Often Mastodon’s features work the way they do because it was first populated by people who had been harassed on FB and the Birdsite.

For instance (not sorry), you cannot search Masto for a simple term. Only #hashtags. Say you’re having a private conversation about iguanas. Anti-iguana trolls will not be able to search for “iguanas”, find your conversation, and drop into it to say, “Iguana luvers suck!”

But if you are wanting to connect with new iguana fanciers on Mastodon, slipping an #iguanas hashtag somewhere into your posts will allow people to search for and find them.

#introduction Hi! I'm Amy, a chief information officer and gender bias expert. I'm an active Twitter user but am exploring safe alternatives.

@Britt I'd include it! I think social media needs more participation from scientists. Surprisingly few of my colleagues are on anything besides Twitter. Seeing Mastodon on your poster may get a few more people interested in trying this platform!

@Neekerbreeker I would love to see people get inspired like that! :) I have the pleasure of doing two poster sessions this year (one diversity program-specific, one sensory/pain topic-specific) so I will encourage people at both sessions to do the same if it comes up.

If you're on Mastodon, put your handle in your Twitter bio! People can use tools like this that create a list to upload into Mastodon to bring your contacts there. This can also help you choose a server. It groups them by server and says which are open fedifinder.glitch.me/

I normally put my Twitter @ on my posters at conferences so I can connect with people I meet, or if someone wants to get in touch about my poster later they have an easy, relatively informal way to do so instead of email. Is anyone else considering putting their Mastodon handle on their conference posters?

As I do some last-minute work on my poster for Society for Neuroscience next week, I'm considering putting this with my email address. How about y'all?
