Abuse, PTSD, leaving Twitter (thread)
Let’s be clear: #Elon Musk’s behavior (& that of his buddies) is #abuse. It’s not a symptom of mental illness.
As a billionaire, he has outsized power, allowing him to hold thousands of people (his employees & #Twitter users) in an abusive dynamic writ large.
If you depended on Twitter for your livelihood or support system, & especially if you have experienced this dynamic before, you’re likely displaying internal & behavioral #trauma or #ptsd responses. 🧵
Trolls, themselves, don't tend to believe in listening to everyone.
They're certainly not looking for debate.
To them, a discussion is not even about uncovering a truth or—more unsubtlely—being right or wrong.
It's about winning or losing.
From a troll's perspective, all interactions are a game with a desired outcome: winning.
In order to deal effectively with trolls, you can't even let them play their game.
Did a little exploration of #Pleroma instances. Seems to be nothing of value there. Am I missing something? #fediverse

Yeah, sure, @freemo messes up sometimes. Because he actually DOES THINGS.
He also seeks constructive criticism and corrects course. More than once a day in public.
You can be comfortable, or you can be a change agent.
The longer I’m around the more I’ve learned life is about perspective. Like who knew the underside of a mushroom could be such an interesting view? I mean the ants & ladybugs probably knew but they weren’t spilling their secrets.
Try to view things a little differently today and just see what happens. Hopefully good things. ❤️
A few days ago, I asked a self-identified leftist why they're still on Twitter.
Their response: "I shouldn't have to leave Twitter, Elon Musk should!"
🙄
That's not how it works.
Elon Musk literally owns Twitter now. It's completely in his private hands. Twitter isn't even trading on the stock market anymore.
Twitter's data centers hosting all your tweets? Elon Musk physically owns them now.
Everything you put on Twitter now -- Elon Musk owns it!

#StarTrek #2001:ASpaceOdyssey
Here's a little tidbit about "2001: A Space Odyssey" (1968):
When I was working on the first Trek film ("Star Trek: The Motion Picture" - ST:TMP - 1979), one of my coworkers was a brilliant gentleman who had been a TD (technical director) on 2001. As I recall he had a collection of little HAL 9000 stickers that would show up in various places around the facility.
Anyway, he had been in charge of all those wonderful data displays in 2001, in the ships and everywhere else. Keep in mind that this was before CGI so everything was done via conventional animation and/or computer motion control camera techniques.
I had been fascinated by those displays ever since I originally saw them. One day we were chatting and I asked him, "How the hell was anyone supposed to be able to interpret all that data from those displays with so much there?" And he replied, "Lauren, that was the whole point! No human could. That's why the mission was impossible without HAL!" -L
