@piggo man, there's a whole 10min movie from which that pic is taken.
@pony Apparently you are right. There's a link at CZ wikipedia page to here: https://www.econlib.cz/zlatyfond/html/zf0054.htm
I learn something unimportant, or silly every day. Today it's this... 😄
@pony that could be. Never though about history of this specific oddity.
@pony 😄 Welcome to remnants of socialism 🙂
@pony Hm. Didn't know nothing moved in CZ since 10+ years I checked the last time... I recall paying this in SK via Internet Even the payment kiosks at police stations are just front-ends to the E-kolok system. E-govt. upgrade moves slow apparently...
@pony Interesting. Isn't there an e-version of that?
Sci-fi short story
They invented general artificial intelligence
At great expense
Years of research, vast resources expended
But they succeeded
A computer programme—the seat of subjectivity, a being with moral status
All because a billionaire wanted to kill something in his video game that could suffer,
And so he could do something profoundly
Wrong
@z428 You spotted a unicorn?
@piggo See, the word "bread" is a full bestiarum of odd things. For instance this: https://www.ireceptar.cz/vareni-a-recepty/co-je-svatojansky-chleb-a-jak-s-nim-nalozit.html
@pony It's "because they can" - nothing to do with 2022.
Yeah, the story of of German abandonment of nuclear power. I personally think it's a mistake.
I am willing to go out on a limb and make a long-term bet:
1. I wager Germany will re-introduce nuclear power in the coming 15-20 years; and
1. it will be Greens who will push for it.
I know, sounds crazy, but such are funny bets :-).
I am, for one, quite an optimist. Do we have everything figured out? Sure we don't. Anyway, the vector of movement is set and we'll get there solving some problems along the way as they come.
In the end, I guess, we'll still need to use some gas, etc. but that fraction will (hopefully) be small enough to come from a flexible and "better" source than Russia is.
But again, I don't have answers to everything. My PhD is not in energy, but in something else and one can become a deep expert only in so many things...
@jwildeboer 👍 Same here.
My reference to fear was a response to your specific expression at the end of your statement: "that's my fear". We are on a platform where single words matter - for better or worse.
@skells What do you mean exactly? You mean that wind/solar are available intermittently?
Honestly, I don't know. My expertise is elsewhere.
Maybe it sounds dumb, or such, but I don't believe it's a job of a deep expert in one field to spout smarts in another. I learned to trust that the smart-asses with PhD the government employs for this
figured it our sufficiently. But I that I don't mean they 100% know the solution, I am fully aware that to an extent this is a bet on a future, while we recognised the past to be untenable. Let' see...

@jwildeboer Anyway, to operate from a position of fear is useless. Let me cheer you up with a recent one in a follow-up toot 🙂 .
@jwildeboer Well, fears here and there, what evidence (except your own fear) do you see?
Exploring, failing, backtracking, just to identify the only viable path forward. And then scarred, stumbling forward into the future. Learning.
Boring and steady. Knowing little and questioning a lot. Mostly harmless.

This is an experimental scrapbook space. A collection of stuff I want to keep in a form somewhere on the spectrum between a blog and a shoe-box full of scraps, cut-outs, quotes, links and reading notes and sometimes my own silly thoughts about them.
Perhaps it might be of marginal interest to others too, but I don't care that much.
