Wildlife surveys using 'DNA vacuums'! 🌳 💨 🦊 🦅 🐸

With just 3 days of ‘vacuuming’ airborne eDNA in a Danish forest, we detected 64 animals - domestic, exotic pets and.. over 50 species of wild birds, mammals and amphibians! This was our first exploration of airborne eDNA in a natural setting and we were especially surprised by the high number of bird taxa detected.

Children strive to become who you expect them to be. They learn so quickly I often feel envious!

They are doing the binary arithmetic, counting permutations and combinations and knowing the difference, build circuits to solve problems and using the concept of functions in computer programs.

They're 6th graders.

It's insane. But it's really happening.

When the Texas state #GOP forcibly took control over the Houston Independent School District, they decided to eliminate librarians and turn libraries into school jails.

Here's a post with a link to another article about it, with a video:

@NoTwit

It's like people's brains fall out of their heads.

"I don't understand why these kids are so bad, they have 90min of math every day and 90min of reading and never go outside. They have no art class and no school sports teams. There are police in the halls not hall monitors. Why oh why are they acting like children?"

Denying children educational opportunities and creating a school to prison pipeline? "The Houston Independent School District confirmed Tuesday that the 28 schools that are under the New Education System will no longer have dedicated librarians. Also, some of the libraries at the NES campuses will be repurposed into "team centers" where students who had to be removed from class due to behavioral issues will be placed to watch their class virtually. khou.com/article/news/educatio

Share this with teenagers and young adults in your life who may be facing censored libraries at school and in many communities.

Isn’t it incredible to live on the same planet where this magnificent, ancient shark once grew up to 65 ft (20m)? 🦈

The massive megalodon swam Earth’s ocean for millions of years.

Funny how many folks mistakenly believe humans are some kind of pinnacle of #evolution. We literally just arrived a few hundred thousand years ago. #science #history

In the internment camps we learned valuable skills! Like how not to get shot for trying to escape, when we just running to use the public latrine on a freezing cold night.

Women in states with abortion bans are nearly three times more likely to die during pregnancy, childbirth or soon after giving birth, according to a report from the Gender Equity Policy Institute shared first with Axios.

“Come on — adults know what slavery really involved. It involved rape. It involved torture. It involved taking a baby from their mother. It involved some of the worst examples of depriving people of humanity in our world. How is it that anyone could suggest that in the midst of these atrocities, that there was any benefit to being subjected to this level of dehumanization?”

Vice President Kamala Harris

Manhattan Project: "One particular group of eight women at Hanford in Eastern Washington and Los Alamos in New Mexico would have been among the forgotten, if not for the FBI’s feverish hunt for private details about their lives. The government that had recruited them to the elite Manhattan Project was now trying to strip them of vital security clearances by proving they were lesbians.." yakimaherald.com/news/nation_a

"The Tularosa Basin was home to a rural population that lived off the land by raising livestock and tending to gardens and farms. They drew water from cisterns and holding ponds. They had no idea that the fine ash that settled on everything in the days following the explosion was from the world’s first atomic blast.

The government initially tried to hide it, saying that an explosion at a munitions dump caused the rumble and bright light, which could be seen more than 160 milesaway." latimes.com/science/story/2023

We don’t get to hear a lot about marine heat waves and how they affect ecosystem function.

Right now, as tourists enjoy the bathing season, the Mediterranean Sea is on its way to reaching highest temperature ever recorded.

> Casiano wept and vomited on the stand as she described the experience, including holding Halo in her arms and watching her slowly die, which occurred four hours after the birth. "She was gasping for air," Casiano said. "I just kept telling myself and my baby that I'm so sorry that this has happened to you. I felt so bad. She had no mercy. There was no mercy there for her."

Texas is not pro-life. They are only pro-pain.

I’ve said this numerous times but many of you REFUSE to acknowledge this TRUTH…”slavery” is NOT an idea of the past because there’re folx TODAY who’d eagerly leverage systems, institutions, and policies to reinstitute slavery as the LAW OF THE LAND

@marcelias I had to read this twice to resolve that the intent wasn't content-free (free of charge)as opposed to content that was free of charge.
