The thing is though that the leading Republicans have no intention of actually reducing the amount of immigration we are getting. Heck, FPOTUS Trump just last month promised Silicon Valley to help bring in more immigrants to help them save on labor costs.

A quick civics lesson for those who keep asking why hasn’t Harris enacted any of her policies over the last 3 1/2 years. The VP only has two official duties:

1 - As President of the Senate, cast tie breaking votes.
2 - Preside over and certify the tally of electoral college votes.

Any other duties the VP may perform are at the request of the President to support the policies of the President.

That’s it. No other powers. Nothing hiding in the couch cushions. Nothing behind Door #1. 🤷🏻‍♀️

For the last 15 years, my mother has been running a project she calls The Poetry Fence, where she covers a tall fence on the side of her home with poetry, art, and science communication, frequently updated. It sounds simple, but it's turned into a really complex poetry outreach project with many facets. It's been an active and constantly evolving project, and a huge part of her life for that entire time. Through it, she's met and connected with hundreds of people in her local community from all walks of life. Her project has been written about in several newspapers, including the Washington Post. She's also been quietly collecting stories throughout this time, and is preparing a book about the project and sharing her experiences through dozens of little vignettes. It's a unique project that has not always been easy to keep up, and I'm very proud of her.

The Indian vulture collapse is one of the worst wildlife disasters in history, and I meet people all the time who have never heard of it. In a few decades, India lost nearly all of its vultures. That cascaded into hundreds of thousands of human deaths, billions of dollars in damage, and a cultural loss that can't even really be measured.

My latest for the Washington Post is about the value of vultures, in hopes that we appreciate ours a little more.
