Finished up my Tunisian crochet bookcase blanket. I always have difficulty judging the width when I set up the first rows so I had to make the border extra wide but overall I like it. #crochet #yarn

The enemy of my enemy is my friend.

I mentioned Edward Snowden in another thread. I note that he (according to The Washington Post) was personally granted Russian citizenship by Vladimir Putin.

Under the circumstances there was probably little else Snowden could do.

[This happened way back in September. I've only noticed now.]

I'm reading about the collapse of complex societies and going back and forth between books and google because there is so much I don't know about the historical people in these books. Also, and I imagine this will offend some, I think that actually throwing money at space travel and fantasizing about living on other planets right now is sort of like fiddling while Rome burns. Don't you think so? Oh well, I guess we all have to occupy ourselves in some way while we wait for disaster.

So elon has learned what happens when he tries to bluff. A lot of people called his bluff and are taking their three months of severance pay. I hope they all find jobs in about a month, but first have some time off and rest.

One of the greatest things Twitter brought to the table was the ability to scale up smaller or more obscure information and sources. Someone halfway around the world throws out a message about something eventful happening and shortly after the world is discussing it. I and a lot of others are Looking into and trying to figure out Mastodon. I’m hoping Mastodon can facilitate that function should Twitter no longer be reliable as it appears likely the case.

The British refusing to accept that Brexit is partly responsible for the economic crisis is like Americans refusing to accept guns are responsible for gun crime.

Summary of my personal Mastodon experience after 1 week.

1. No one likes the current owner of Twitter
2. Cat people outnumber the dog people
3. Everybody is remarkably smart about something

That’s it.

Well my Twitter account got permanently suspended. Last thing I said was this

@Hortense I’m not sciency myself. I think it’s good to have you here! The more backgrounds the better.

I have seen some art and philosophy posters on qoto so it can be anything you want.

So, I joined QOTO because I like sciency things and couldn't find any other appealing group. But I think I may be in the wrong group. I think this group is for actual, you know, scientists.

Got to admit I'm having a hard time curating a feed on Mastodon, or rather, finding the time and muse to curate a feed.

I was always the guy who never had music play lists, or paid for music streaming services like Spotify or Deezer. Looking up music, picking it out, adding them to play lists, creating multiple ones... All that just couldn't keep up with "I'm going to enter what I want in that very moment into the YouTube search bar". Creating a feed on Mastodon feels the same, head space wise.

I'd have to look up specific has tags because I can't just enter random terms in the search, and hope the other person actually used hashtags. There is no algorithm that would help me find content once I got around to find a few artists and scientists and the likes. So that falls entirely to the user, which has its positives, but causes me to feel the same way about it than the music playlist.

I also don't feel like posting a lot here - I consciously joined a STEM server because I love to read about all that science stuff. But looking at my Twitter feed, I barely post about them myself. Should I have multiple Mastodon accounts, one for searching, one for posting, and sync them? I'm a bit lost. And rather feel like creating a music playlist.

Here’s my #Introduction now I’ve come over from the dark side in the #TwitterMigration. I’m a freelance writer and an editor specialising in food and drink, who originally trained as an archaeologist. I’m an addicted knitter and I love my garden. I live in Wales between the mountains and the sea, still defiantly describe myself as European.

Did a search, couldn't find anyone else with a Dimash hashtag.

New here. I'm interested in all sorts of things, but particularly in finding fiber enthusiasts.
