NEW: In @ScienceMagazine today, our latest peer-reviewed research shows Exxon scientists predicted global warming with shocking skill & accuracy between 1977 & 2003, contradicting the company's decades of climate denial. THREAD.

The worst time to have a heart attack is during a game of charades.

Decided to clear a tab from my phone's Firefox while I ate dinner, the one I chose was Unknown Number, which a friend told me about a few days ago.

Holy shit it hits hard.

Been seeing a lot about #ChatGPT lately and got my first question at the library this week from someone who was looking for a book that the bot had recommended. They couldn't find it in our catalog. Turns out that ALL the books that ChatGPT had recommended for their topic were non-existent. Just real authors and fake titles cobbled together. And apparently this is known behavior. 😮

Did anyone see this Hallelujah paragraph in the New York Times today? Here's the part we celebrate. (Context is the current melt down of the Republican party...)

"That ideology of destruction defies characterization by traditional political labels like moderate or conservative."

nytimes.com/2023/01/05/us/poli

Did you hear that? The Times politics desk is now admitting that "conservative" is not a good name for the MAGA forces overtaking the GOP.

And it only took 12 years!

But I stand by the original Tweet, and I stand by my statement that the results of this study are worrisome.

1. This level of FAS expression is not normal.
2. Nor is this level of T cell exhaustion.
3. Nor is the absence of this subset of cells.

Bertoletti is wrong.

I've deeply pondered for a way to explain to you all what this means

Fas is a protein whose induction initiates apoptosis. It's greatly increased from SARS Cov 2. I did my PhD on T cell FAS

It means Covid makes T cells suicidal

When the Republican extremists (redundant?) have full control over the House agenda, once they actually permit a speaker to be named, one of their top priorities is to cause the United States to default on its debt. That will trigger a global economic catastrophe.

It will be essential if and when they do this, for Big Journalism to make totally clear -- with no quoting "both sides" bullshit -- what has happened.

What worries me is that I'm not sure journalists will rise to the occasion.

So let me get this straight

Republicans think it’s too cumbersome to walk through metal detectors to enter Congress

But these same Republicans demand that our little kids walk through metal detectors just to attend elementary school

Do I have this right? 🤦🏻‍♀️

@niconiconi A constant that varies must be... a variable.

A variable that won't vary is... wait for it...
A constant.

Seems you still have everything covered.

As tragic and stupid as watching Twitter self immolate is, it is nice to see Mastodon light up with new voices. Also nice seeing more and more posts pop up here that aren’t also cross posted to Twitter. It’s dead, Jim. Let it be.

Few things bring me the zen calm of organizing my music library. Just scan, tag, sort. World without end, amen.

It says everything about the Republican Party that Santos isn’t the most embarrassing thing happening to them today.

Matt Gaetz says #KevinMcCarthy should not be allowed to occupy this #HouseSpeaker’s office, because he finished second in three consecutive votes. #Gaetz becomes the first #MAGA Republican to suggest that finishing second means you have lost an election.

“I’ve never seen anything like this in my more than 20 years in Congress.”

—George Santos

Dear Democrats — All you have to do is show up and laugh at these assholes.

Don’t let us down.
