#introduction

I'm a Group Leader at HHMI Janelia working at the intersections of #ComputerVision, #MachineLearning, #DataScience, #Neuroscience, #Ethology & #HCI. I use #CV, #ML and tech to gain insight into biology. My most cited work involves animal tracking and behavior analysis. I love algorithms and trying to understand how, when, & why they work. But really I'm an engineer and want to solve problems however I can!

Outside work, I like sunshine, outdoors, #climbing, & #crosswords.

Forgot to do an #introduction in my excitement to be here.
Right now I have a few work hats: as a Senior Advisor to the Director of NHGRI, I lead projects needed by the institute, and this year that's establishing #evaluation of our grants and programs.
As an Associate Investigator, I lead the Engagement Methods Unit (EMU), my small lab focused on #genetic literacy (paper out soon!), #autism #genetics and #genomics, highlighting #ableism, and measuring effectiveness of #scicomm.
👋🏻 y'all!

Peeps, I am officially starting to offer (biomedical) image analysis and data science services.

If you are interested in working with me on all things data - be it a small Macro or a whole project - please DM me for more information.

Hello !

I'm a microscopist and image analyst at the BIOP imaging center at EPFL in Switzerland.

I'll be sharing mostly nerd stuff about /#FijiSc. Can't wait to see if the scientific mastodon community takes off!

So, let's get serious: can we share videos here? Let's find out:

RT @MAChristoLab
📢Two #PhD #projects are available in our lab.

We're a team of curious scientists, ambitious in the questions we ask and our approaches, and super-nice!

We place very high value in training and supporting researchers from all backgrounds and graduating well-rounded scientists.

@maxkennerly I'm a newbie, but I have seen others describe #CW as a "content wrapper" rather than a "content warning". This makes a lot of sense to me - makes it easy to scroll past stuff that I'm not interested in. For example, as a #Canadian, I have only a high-level interest in American politics and don't necessarily want to see every #midterm #election update.

I've talked a lot as a member of the scientific community at #ScienceMastodon, now my #introduction as a researcher... with a separate account for that.

My aim is to understand how living #cells and #tissues can actively change shape through the generation of internal #prestress within the #cytoskeleton.

For this, I devise #mechanical #models of the #actomyosin (a component of the cell's skeleton which can bear forces and generate #prestress) and then solve them, mostly by #numericalsimulation

We always love looking at the beautiful pattern of expression of #AAV in the #retina. This is AAV-GFP in a retina following intravitreal injection. We're working to improve #GeneTherapy through vector engineering.

First post!
#introduction I’m a cell biologist/microscopist, managing the light microscopy core facility at Imperial College London, called FILM (Facility for Imaging by Light Microsocpy).
We provide training and assistance in widefield, confocal, high content, multi photon and super resolution imaging. We also support users in #bioimageanalysis.
I love imaging, biology and science in general, so post on these, plus music, arts, cheese and coffee.

Woah - German government has got its own Mastodon instance and most of the ministries and many agencies already have accounts.
Verification problem at least partially solved - just need to check the domain is right!
I've also seen newspapers like theatlantic.com set up instances themselves. Looks like verification will be worked out sooner or later.

#introduction I’m a Royal Society research fellow at UCL where my lab uses computational biology to study how mutations cause disease, with a special interest in #aging and #cancer!

Our research covers multiple scales- how mutations change proteins to trigger disease, how genes coordinate to control cell behaviour, and how cells compete and interact in the tissue to cause disease! Check out my lab website for more info hall-lab.com/ #sciencemastodon

The Fediverse has its own video platform called @peertube.

You can follow PeerTube accounts from Mastodon, for example try following craftykat@diode.zone

You can watch and interact with the videos entirely within Mastodon, or on PeerTube itself.

Here's an example of a PeerTube server:

➡️ fedi.video

If you see an account you like, you can copy and paste its account address into Mastodon to follow it there. When new videos are published, they will appear in your Mastodon timeline.

finally time for #Introduction

I'm Vittorio a researcher in the BioNanoTechnology group in Wageningen (the Netherlands).

Workwise I like to mix #chemistry with #technology (#microfluidics, #3Dprinting, #materials, #nano and so on)

for example:
make PDMS microfluidics at home: onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/fu

transform your 3D printer in a set of syringe pumps:
sciencedirect.com/science/arti

or use a coffee capsule to detect Covid RNA:
