So, I just discovered the fediverse in general in the last couple days. Like any time I find something new to me and interesting, I dove in head first with an obsessive need to learn more. I was like Hermione in a new library.
Here are 2 things I wish were different tho. First I wish all the instances used the same software, namely whatever qoto is using. In my exploring I have tried out a few instances and this one by far seems the best to me for its customizeability with things like blocking entire domains (I personally think this is better than an instance blocking another instance) and the lovely huge character limits.
Second thing I wish was different is the toot button. Would it be so bad for it to just say "Send" instead of Toot? I get where it comes from, but I've seen some people take mastodon less seriously because of it being called tooting, it kinda gives off a hipster vibe of trying too hard to not be "tweet," and it sometimes just makes me think of stupid fart jokes lol.
Other than those two points, I am loving the fediverse and my mind is blown with how explosively active the Federated timeline is.
Yes, LittleWytch beat me to it -- was searaching from a post I wrote documenting that.
@design_RG @LittleWytch thanks anyway. I love the openness of the fediverse here, but I can only take so many Gab posts
@obi Oh, that particular instance is Zero posts for me too. Been filtered this way since I started here.
@design_RG There is no way to filter domain subs by language, like the public timelines, is there?
@obi If you use the Languages control in the mastodon user panel and only select the ones you can at least partially understand, the filtering should apply to any posts you see in other instances -- as long os mastodon identifies the language of the post correctly.
There's no other controls for that, but it should work everywhere, I think.
@design_RG I followed a domain and sent to Home. All French and Spanish posts were coming thru, with that filter on. But its been a few hrs since I've seen it, so maybe it was just a glitch. Thanks.
@obi The filter depends on the Toot itself having its language identified -- it it is in Spanish but there's no other flag, it will assume it's English and display it. So, not fool proof, but that's all the control we have.
@LittleWytch That's the first place I looked before checking settings. I guess I'm blind. Got it now, thanks!
