@evangreer Which "global human right" involves access to Twitter?
Let it burn. It's just a service offered by a company. There are other companies and other services people can use.
@mathlover @evangreer Bingo. Imagine if we were this worried about losing mySpace.
@LouisIngenthron censorship at the app store level is primarily used to block things like LGBTQ dating apps, apps used by protesters and dissidents, privacy tools, etc. It's not just about twitter
@evangreer Can you please cite a source for that claim? Because in my experience, their moderation practices are more about preventing harm.
If their moderation choices do cause harm, then people can choose not to use their app stores. I'm sure there are a couple players ready to move in and set up third-party app stores the moment confidence in the first-party ones starts faltering.
@LouisIngenthron Here's a database maintained by a China-based human rights group focused specifically on removals from Apple app store https://applecensorship.com/
To your point about "third party app stores" you know that Apple bans them on iPhone and makes it impossible to side-load, right?
@LouisIngenthron Here's a specific high profile example that helps illuminate the issue here https://www.nytimes.com/2019/10/09/technology/apple-hong-kong-app.html
@evangreer Correct, which is just one of many awful practices by Apple and why I recommend people stop buying their products, especially if they don't want to be spied on.
But apparently people are happy to give those things up to have shiny stuff, so Apple remains a dominant platform 🤷♂️
But we all have a choice. So, can you show any similar statistics for Android?
@LouisIngenthron
On the one hand, the loss of Twitter will leave a void; on the other hand, that void is an opportunity for better things to arise in Twitter's place.
