@louis @chrishudsonjr @mmasnick i agree- there is a fine line - but obviously there is speech that is should be prohibited by the state. And I think that using old laws in internet age is not a good idea.

As I understand your argument only those participating in violent activities should face legal consequences, whereas those that organised and promoted (let's suppose there are some) have no responsibility? I believe that you can't separate the two- ones that stoke the fire in the first place and those that then act. Also, words can be violence as well- just see bullying - I hope we agree that there freedom of speech has to be policed by the state? So
@louis @chrishudsonjr @mmasnick I think that your view is based upon a very noble (but unfortunately not true) idea that if you let individuals say what they want, the majority will see through the lies and won't endorse the hate and won't resort to violence. It simply doesn't work that way. We need to make illegal type of speech that undermines democracy and/or leads to violence.
@louis @ULTROS_PROFESSIONAL what does power of the state mean? In Germany (and many other states) nazi symbols are censured (forbidden by law to use them in public)-surely that's power of state, and it doesn't make Germany a fascist state.
@chrishudsonjr @mmasnick sounds like a case of Poppers tolerance paradox, you have to be intolerant to intolerant people if you want a tolerant society.

Totally legitimate Twitter user for weeks ranted in support of Trump… until it ran out of ChatGPT credits and dumped its prompt (GPT task description) which says “argue in support of Trump on Twitter, speak in English”). Last time I checked this morning, the account was “restricted” but not even suspended.

@vrandecic @TimWardCam same here for autonomous cars- if you can make them safer than human drivers on real roads, and speed up traffic flow by making them talk to each other I'm all for it. But as I see it for a modern city public transport should be a much higher priority.
@TimWardCam @vrandecic I would argue that if uncomprehensive public transport is the problem then the solution should be more comprehensive public transport, not self driving cars. With them you simply use too much urban real estate and energy per passenger-km travelled.

If you are an #EU-citizen then go #vote! Else the totalitarians and fascists will take over.
Just do it. If you didn't find the perfect party then just vote for one where you see a lot of overlap with your positions. Perfect matches don't exist.
Or have doubts about some structures of the EU, not voting will not make that better, but worse.

@mbonsma I ride my e -bike to work every day, and it takes me between 22 and 24 minutes. My neighbour/colleague does the same commute in a car. She says it takes her anywhere from 15- 50 minutes.
@mejs de gustibus I guess, as my favourite film critic (Mark Kermode) says: you get what you bring to the movie. Guess we brought different things to the movie.
But even if you don't like it, if it made people think and talk about civil wars in general, and in the US in particular it was worth creating.
