@Surasanji Dont test me, the thought has crossed my mind more than once.
I have this nagging desire to build a completely useless piece of archaic technology using modern tools. A memory delay line. I would love to use fiber optics but and electrical wire works too. Obviously it would have to be really long to fit any significant number of bits in it, and even then it would be on the order of hundreds or thousands of bits. But the idea of storing memory as signals moving near the speed of light just tickles me pink.
An image showing how the protoboard I designed is laid out as well as a picture of the printed board and my Frequency Counter design soldered to it as an example. I also attached the schematic for reference.

I don't trust myself enough to repaste a laptop with my limited level of expertise. Better to get someone with insurance to do it. XD
Now, I need to figure out how to undervolt the CPU and find someone who can repaste this beast to deal with one of the major complaints of the laptop- heat issues.
@Surasanji Update, I just swapped out the diodes for a different brand and now I can get up to 55Mhz (my target) with a signal down to 700 Vpp, so just need to get that minimum signal voltage a bit better and she will be up to spec.
The latest version of my frequency counter prototype using a Manhattan style construction.
