Just a reminder of what they tried to do in Tennessee

@pathw @TheOldGuy hmm.. I don't see where it mentions any of that. It looks to be just defining "common law marriage" as being between a man and a woman. Also limits legal action that can be taken against clerks.

@beecker @pathw

Yeah they took heat about equal to the tail of a rocket. And ended up rewriting it. Originally it did away with age limits for marriage so you could marry a 10 year old if she said yes.

@TheOldGuy @pathw interesting. I see many media reports to that effect, but the oldest available version States "age of majority" which is 18.

@beecker @pathw Yeah, it does because of the public outcry. People tend to forget big news items in a matter of months. That's why I posted a reminder.

@beecker @pathw That's why I said "tried to do". Were you in a coma and missed it when it happened?

@TheOldGuy @pathw no, no coma. Just don't follow fake news anymore so I guess I "missed" it.

@TheOldGuy
Child marriage is legal in most states in America. I can't believe more people aren't angry about this.

@tofugolem
It's restricted in most states
Even in Utah she has to be 14 and have parents permission.
Under the bill that was originally written, it would have been possible to marry a 2 year old without the need for parental permission as long as she said yes. Good old Republicans at work.
