The Kyiv City Council awarded the title of "Honorary Citizen of Kyiv" to ex-commander-in-chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, General Valeriy Zaluzhny and poetess Lina Kostenko, Mayor of the capital Vitali Klitschko said.

"Today, by the decision of the Kyiv City Council, the capital expressed its respect and awarded the title of Honorary Citizen of Kyiv to two people who are real moral authorities for Kyiv residents and Ukrainians - Lina Kostenko and Valeriy Zaluzhny,"
Klitschko wrote on the Telegram channel on Wednesday.

He noted that Kyiv distinguished Zaluzhny for his personal merits during the defense of the capital and in the protection of state sovereignty and freedom of Ukraine.

"I was very pleased to present the awards [...] at Lina Vasylyivna's house,"
Klitschko added.

"It is a great honor for me to be next to the Great Man. I thank the community of the city of Kyiv for the trust and the high award,"
Zaluzhny commented on Telegram.

US National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan said that he expects “Russian successes soon” despite the new funding package. Sullivan emphasized that “you can't flick a switch instantly.”

He stated that Ukraine will hold its defenses through 2024 with the new aid. Sullivan said that next year Kyiv intends to “move forward to regain territory taken away by the Russians.”

Russian Attack Hits School Stadium, Injures Four Children in Ukraine's Kharkiv

A Russian air attack hit a school stadium in Ukraine's northeastern Kharkiv on Wednesday, injuring at least four children and three adults, officials said.

Two teenagers were hospitalised in serious condition, regional governor Oleh Synehubov said on the Telegram messenger.

The prosecutor's general office added that the school and nearby residential buildings were damaged in the attack.

Anna Shala was 12 years old. The girl lived in Novogrodivka, Donetsk region.

On May 2, 2024, she and her family came to Svitlana's grandmother in the village of Memryk to help with the household.

The Russian army struck with a Grad - one of the shells killed the girl and her grandmother.
Anna's mother was hospitalized.

Anna studied in the 6th grade. She adored animals. She was engaged in gymnastics.

"Joyful, creative, took an active part in the life of the class. She had many dreams and plans for the future," said the Novogrodov City Territorial Community.

Anna is survived by her parents and other relatives.
