FRONTLINE UPDATE
Official Ukrainian sources are repeating the fact they have had to withdraw several dozen 155mm artillery pieces and will continue to pull back more as shells are now in increasingly short supply.
Fierce fighting on the northern front has been taking place with Ukraine so far successfully using drones in place of artillery to keep the Russians at bay. It has at times reduced itself to a Ukrainian tank chasing down individual soldiers that are running off trying to avoid it.
North of Bakhmut at Kremove, the Russians have made further small gains, but these come on a string of continuous small gains that have now become quite a significant area - in fact more than Ukraine gained in the south and Klishievka in the summer. What was once a sizeable Ukrainian salient north of Bakhmut has been completely eradicated over four months.
South of Klishievka at Kurdiomivka, the Russians appear to have taken back the canal tunnels and control over the left bank. This is not good news as the canal line was hard fought in the summer and is a key defence line for either side.
In Avdivka the Russians are

There’s no sugar coating this to make it palatable. The artillery shells situation is increasingly worrying. The scale of consumption outweighs the supply by probably 5 to 1 around now. Only by using less can things be stretched out.
Ukraine seems reluctantly to be adopting a land for life saved policy, but the eventual problem with that, to paraphrase Winston Churchill, is ‘wars are not won by evacuations’.
US support is about to be announced for around $1 billion. That’s the end of it until a new package is agreed.
While US republican senators and representatives sit down to a warm family lunch this Christmas, perhaps they should remember who is fighting for their freedom to do so, at what amounts to a bargain price for America.
At the same time Europe needs to do more. We need to see Hungary chucked out of decision making in the EU and its NATO access restricted. We need as Poland’s prime minister Donald Tusk has said, to see Europe pull itself together and get with the program- so much of Europe seems lethargic and uncomfortable with doing what it’s promised. It’s time to wake up in 2024 before it’s too late!

The Bakhmut direction remains extremely important for the Russian invaders. They concentrate their main efforts on it and use the most combat-capable units of the landing forces, the marines and the "Storm Z" and "Storm V" units formed from former criminals to carry out assault operations.
The enemy's goal in this direction is clear - it is an attack on the settlement of Chasiv Yar, then on Kostyantynivka, Druzhkivka, Slavyansk, Kramatorsk, with further access to the borders of the Donetsk region.
In the Lyman direction, the Russian occupying forces moved to constant attacks on the positions of our troops in the directions of Makiivka and Terni. Combat operations are underway in the Seversky direction. The occupiers actively use equipment during assaults, which are constantly destroyed by Ukrainian defenders.
The daily assault actions of the Russian troops in the Sinkivka area with the aim of capturing it and creating a bridgehead for the further offensive on the city of Kupyansk do not stop.
The situation is complicated. We have to fight in conditions of superiority of the enemy both in weapons and in the number of personnel.
However, commanders and staffs monitor changes in the situation 24/7, analyze the actions of the enemy and their troops, make effective management decisions to strengthen the defense and destroy the enemy.

The enemy suffers heavy losses, which he replenishes with the reserves of assault battalions formed from former prisoners.

In the first half of December, the enemy lost about eight thousand servicemen in the zone of responsibility of the Khortytsia air defense system. In addition, more than five hundred units of enemy military equipment were destroyed or damaged. Among them: 67 tanks, more than a hundred armored fighting vehicles, 77 guns and mortars of various calibers.
Unlike the aggressor, Ukrainian defense forces try to achieve success through thoughtful planning of combat operations and effective use of artillery, mortars, attack drones and small arms. And the greatest value for us is the life of our soldiers. Minimizing losses is always a priority when planning operations.

Former Russian intelligence colonel and ex-member of the private military company Wagner, Igor Salikov, wants to testify about Russia's war crimes in Ukraine at the International Criminal Court (ICC).
He sent a letter to the ICC with statements about who gave orders to the occupiers, the falsification of the "referendum" in Donetsk, the abduction of Ukrainian children to Belarus, and Russian false flag operations in the Donetsk region with the killing of civilians.
Igor Salikov explained his appeal to the ICC by losing faith in the Russian case. It is not yet clear whether the court will consider his letter.
