A vote for Trump means....??
Comments by Ukraine Journal member, J
According to Donald Trump, if you vote for him as the President of the United States, he will end the war in Ukraine (on the day he is elected no less), and if you don't, there will be World War III.
It is a stark message: "Vote for me and there will be peace, but if you don't, the world will come to an end!".
And it sounds like an easy choice - everyone wants wars to end and new wars to be prevented.
"Just vote for Trump and it will all be fixed overnight."
So what will it take to stop the war against Ukraine according to Donald Trump? Essentially a deal with Putin, where Ukraine gives up the occupied Ukrainian territories and then Putin would agree to stop.
For Putin it would be perfect at this point as we move to winter to pretend to agree to this - it would allow him to consolidate the territories that he has taken and rebuild his mechanised armed forces that Ukraine has been wearing down with a fair amount of success for the last two years. He would be seen as willing to compromise and make Trump look like the peacemaker. Some might even say that this is a plan they have already agreed during Orban's visits to Mar-a-Lago.
The problem? A bully doesn't stop when you give in to him, when you show weakness. A hungry thief doesn't stop stealing if you let him keep what he has already stolen from you. Putin will be back for more.
Putin plays the long game, longer than the US 4-year election cycle, not having to worry much about elections himself.
If you attempt to appease Putin, you can be certain that he (or his successor) will be back to build the ruzzian empire ever larger soon again. It will not be a lasting peace.
That is the lesson from World War II. That world war wasn't avoided by appeasing Hitler, and appeasing Putin won't prevent World War III. If anything, it will only encourage China, Iran and other autocratic countries.
A lasting peace in Ukraine is achieved by defeating Putin, by showing strength, by allowing deep strikes against the enemy in self defense and by providing enough support to win.
Anything else will cost many times more. Many republicans (and democrats) in the US believe this. Trump doesn't.

In russian Yakutia, there was a major fire with detonation at the production of building materials
The fire covered 1,200 square metres of territory. In the video, sounds similar to explosions can be heard, but what could have detonated in the warehouse, where, according to the russian Ministry of Emergency Situations, sandwich panels are stored. 😂

Two grumpy old men discuss The Post's Oligarch Watch. (We need one in the US)
"Don't brush your teeth, don't wash your feet. Water comes once every 3 days" - hromadske
The 23rd mechanized brigade entered Chasiv Yar in June 2024. When asked if he had been coming out of the basement in the city to civilization since then, Serhiy, the platoon commander, replied that he had not. He's been there for a month and a half. In this basement, the entire life of the unit takes place: logistics are planned here, the situation at the positions is monitored, they eat, sleep, go to the toilet here (it is too dangerous to go outside).
On this August evening, logistician Vitaliy is going to deliver packages to the positions, as he does every night. He fills his backpack with cigarettes, water, and batteries for walkie-talkies. 3.5 km one way, the same back. Under fire from artillery and FPV.
But this is not the most difficult thing for him. The most difficult thing is when he does not go alone, but takes other soldiers to the positions.
"It's scary when you lead people, because you worry about them so that no one gets lost, because no one knows the way.
If someone gets lost, it is not clear where he will go – to ours or to the Russians. I lost a friend like that. He was studying to be a logistician, I showed the way, a mine flew by – three of us were thrown into a trench, and he ran somewhere. As if, they say, they found it, but he was KIA," Vitaly says.
In a few hours, he receives a new task: not only to distribute provisions, but also to get five new people to the position. The mission is dangerous. The more people there are, the more visible the target for drones. A group of six people is already too much.
By the time of the exit – just before dawn – Vitaliy and his commanders are visibly nervous and carefully make a plan.
