Ukrainian survivors of russian captivity share harrowing stories at the Ministerial Conference on the Human Dimension of the #PeaceFormula in Montreal.
Their testimonies reveal the brutal reality of torture, starvation, and psychological
abuse.
"We were beaten and starved," says former POW Maksym Kolesnikov. "The most difficult was when we were forbidden to talk and forced to stand for hours." He urges the world to help free his fellow soldiers still held captive.
Kateryna Yesypenko speaks out about her husband Vladyslav, a journalist imprisoned by russia for reporting on the situation in occupied Crimea. "He was tortured with electric shock to force a false confession," she reveals.
Ukrainian paramedic Yuliia Paievska (Taira) describes the horrific experience of torture by electric shock. "It's when your muscles are too tense, when your breath catches, when your heart threatens to stop," she says.
Yuliia Paievska noted that in this way she was forced to confess to crimes she had never committed, but on the contrary, she took care of the wounded, including even russians.
Paievska calls for an alternative to the International Red Cross to reach Ukrainian prisoners and ensure their humane treatment. "The Red Cross has not reached anyone I know," she states.

This cartoon is from 1930s. The West was quietly watching as russia was killing Ukrainian people. "It's about time to stop this."
Back then, fools argued:
"The Soviet Union is not the russian Empire!"
"Tales of millions starving aren't real!"
"We shouldn't anger the bear!"
Now they argue similar nonsense:
"russia is not the Soviet Union!"
"All that footage of murder and genocide isn't real!"
"We shouldn't anger the nuclear country!"
A hundred years has passed and nothing has changed.
History will judge us for making the same mistake again.

An employee of Ukrainian media said that the Ukrainian Armed Forces were ordered not to use words like "retreat" and "the enemy has penetrated our defense" in conversations with journalists.
Instead, it is recommended to use "offensive", "victory", "we are moving forward", "we are knocking out the enemy".

🇺🇦🙏🇵🇱The Ukrainian people sincerely sympathise with Poland, which is suffering from the consequences of a large-scale flood. Our meeting in Warsaw with the Marshal of the Senate of Poland, Małgorzata Kidawa-Błonska, began with these words.
On behalf of the Verkhovna Rada, and as a citizen of Ukraine, I expressed my condolences to Ms Marshal and the Polish people over the loss of life and destruction caused by the natural disaster.
Ukraine is close by and is always ready to help. If necessary, one hundred Ukrainian rescuers equipped with all the necessary equipment are ready to go to Poland.
👏 We will never forget and will always be grateful to Poland for its military, financial and humanitarian assistance to Ukraine totalling €4.3 billion since the beginning of russia's full-scale invasion.
We are grateful to Poland for its continued support of Ukraine on its path to EU and NATO membership.
A political invitation to membership is very important for us.
The Deputy Speaker Olena Kondratiuk
Verkhovna Rada government of Ukraine.

Russian President Vladimir Putin has not achieved a single one of his strategic objectives after nearly 1,000 days of full-scale war against Ukraine, U.S. Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin said in his op-ed published by Foreign Affairs on Nov. 1.
"Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky didn’t flee. Kyiv didn’t fall. And Ukraine didn’t fold," the Pentagon chief said.
Putin's original goals in his full-scale invasion of Ukraine launched in early 2022 were to “liberate the Donetsk and Luhansk Oblasts, "demilitarize and denazify" the country which in the Kremlin's eyes, envisioned the removal of its Jewish president, and the occupation of its capital city Kyiv.
After swiftly failing to achieve these goals, with the exception of Russian forces occupying all of Luhansk Oblast, Putin was forced to lower his ambitions and said Russia's "main goal" was to capture all of Ukraine's eastern Donbas area that also includes the adjacent Donetsk Oblast.
According to Austin, Russia has paid "a staggering price for Putin’s imperial folly," with more than $200 billion squandered. Russia has lost almost 700,000 troops killed and injured since Feb. 2022, Ukraine's General Staff reported.
