The US believes that the new aid will allow Ukraine to seize the initiative

A new $1 billion package of U.S. military aid was announced after a months-long hiatus during which Russian forces launched a large-scale offensive in eastern Ukraine.

"Ukrainian troops have been rationing their ammunition and resources for a long time. Therefore, Russian troops have essentially seized the initiative," commented a senior U.S. defense official.

In his opinion, assistance from the United States and other countries "will allow the Ukrainians to start seizing the initiative," but "it will not be a quick process."

Good morning Resisters. 100% chance of rain. Thunderstorms. Yesterday so much rain we were moving at 40 mph on the divided highway.

Allied countries asked Greece to send S-300 or Patriot air defense systems to Ukraine. However, Greece will not supply them because the country says it needs them for their own defense.

"Let me explain it a little more in detail: Greece has supported Ukraine in various ways, with defense material. But we have said from the first moment that we cannot dispose of weapons systems which are critical to our deterrent capability. We have surplus material with which we can support Ukraine, we have done so and I think it is the right choice. And, to the extent that we can find such material, we will continue to do so. However, the air defense systems, to which you referred, are critical systems for the protection of the Greek airspace and will not be granted to Ukraine," Prime Minister Mitsotakis said.

State department confirms US began secretly providing Ukraine long-range ATACMS missiles in March

The U.S. began this spring secretly providing Ukraine with long-range Army Tactical Missile Systems (ATACMS) at President Joe Biden's direction, U.S. State Department Spokesperson Vedant Patel confirmed at a press briefing on April 24.

"He (Biden) quietly directed his National Security team to send ATACMS to Ukraine for use inside Ukrainian sovereign territory in February. They started moving as part of the military aid package we announced on March 12," Patel said. Ukraine received missiles in April, according to Patel.
