I was part of the folks who were on the ground back in #Ferguson in 2014. Twitter didn’t spawn that movement. It was the people on the ground that used Twitter to start that movement. We literally changed who voices that were trusted. All of a sudden news accounts became noise. It was that person who you saw live-streaming from the protest that you trusted. We literally shifted power w/ no check marks. I think that can happen anywhere. Including #Mastodon.
@andraste Just wear a button down shirt and a t-shirt or whatever under it.
@TeacherGriff It's really a shitshow. I am behind the AI art movement but really only as an adjunct not as a main tool for public consumption.
@TeacherGriff They'd have to wipe their entire database and retrain it and I highly doubt they'll do that. Like I'm sure they're gonna tell people they're opted out but there's no way they're gonna do that work. I mean maybe they will. You'll have to keep an eye on their site.
@TeacherGriff They walked back their stance do so you're defaulted to opt out, but the catch is their AI is already trained. So opting out really is only going to opt you out from 3rd party that respects that tag and any new art you upload.
@TeacherGriff I actually am not sure. I think they may have walked the change back because there was immense pushback from folks who either had to deal with or didn't have access to dead loved one's art. Let me check.
In regards to the ongoing meta discussion about the recent influx of new users, attempts to recreate a 1:1 Twitter experience, collisions with the existing culture and norms of the Fediverse, and the fundamental differences between the two ecosystems, I think the most important thing to keep in mind is this: Walugi is real and Nintendo keeps his eggs in a secure basement.
“Being ok with sucking at something while learning” is an extremely undervalued skill.
As is “being happy for people that are better than you”.
Super important for
- learning how to code
- learning a new language
- art, music, podcasting, cooking
- really everything.
Don’t forget to teach your kids these skills.
Also, demonstrate these behaviors.
Let your kids see you being bad at something and not giving up and staying positive.
I absolutely need to know the story behind this. I think I'm using my Costco card wrong.
@drupad I made an account on wt.social which is weird to navigate but it is run by the wiki people and has a news focus. I think that might turn out to be a good place to get news in a social media setting.
@jellycrystals
I was so psyched when SOMEONE ELSE found it for me! I hope more silly bots migrate!
@RikerGoogling
@nickopotamus
I've got nearly zero off my fandom content either, so I feel you. Hopefully we can build the communities we want.
I am not an F1 fanatic but I always love coming across F1 content when cool / interesting / crazy stuff happens. I do miss that stuff from the birb.
@iklein
Two tools. Fedifinder.glitch.me and twitodon.com
It gives me a strange feeling of optimism (how rare) to see us all coming together and trying to keep our communities alive. And maybe even make them better.
