@Whatif WEll, there are two things to consider when picking a server.

1) the topic and how much it is enforced, if any,

2) The moderation policy

QOTO for example is a STEM instance but we dont enforce the subject at all, it just means most of our users are into STEM as a profession or student.

As for our moderation policy, generally we just ask people to be respectful to eachother and not to harass each other. The idea of mutual respect seems to work for the most part.

@Whatif You can use a search to find topics and people, that should bring results from a wider area.

I did one for the #Slowly tag which I follow on the birdsite, and it gave me some results, from all over.

Best way is to search for tags on topics you like and follow that way.

Also if you post an #introductions post with tags for your own interests I can boost it to help get you followers.

Also every friday we all post for #FF / #FollowFriday

If you are active between now and friday I will include you in my follow friday post and get you some followers that way too.

Also if you search for the #FF tag it will give you tons of lists of people that might be interesting to follow.

In the end, just post interesting content and you will get followers quickly, also reach out to others and chat when possible.
