The foundational premise of Wikipedia is “Assume good faith” (is.gd/WpDPsA). Educational philosopher Nel Noddings offered similarly sound advice for dealing with children: Attribute to them the best possible motive for their actions that's consistent with the facts.

If folks aren't able to stop Desantis in Florida, then the rest of the country WILL be next....

And that's not even touching on the fact that the university would not exist were it not for the thousands of indentured Chinese workers exploited by Leland Stanford Sr. while he amassed the wealth that was funneled into the tax shelter now known as Leland Stanford Junior University.

And the article doesn't bother to probe Stanford University's theft of Native American remains and the P.R. department's bullshit excuse for having them in the first place, which can be summarized as: "Uh, we were just holding them...for safekeeping...but we gave most of them back...besides, even if we had done everything that ProPublica's damning evidence says we did, we're not nearly as bad as Harvard and Berkeley."

Personally, I think the wealth gap is part of the problem.

Only right-wing Americans could possibly think that a vast wealth gap in society is natural, normal and fundamentally right!

"Placing more emphasis on students' explanations requires teachers to relinquish some control over a lesson's direction. This can be a frightening prospect to a teacher who is unprepared to evaluate the validity of a novel idea that students propose."

Without understanding how race, gender, class, and the law intersect, we are severely limited in our ability to achieve gender equity. Bad actors that understand very well how these concepts intersect, will use that knowledge to win the long game.

This is why racists are banning the teaching and study of this intersectionality.

Prof. Kimberlé Crenshaw coined the term intersectionality. Read her stuff.

Arm yourself with the forbidden knowledge! 👍🏿

“Why do Americans have to pay Intuit to tell the IRS things it already knows?” — Cory Doctorow pluralistic.net/2023/02/20/tur

If you carve out a path in the newly fallen snow, the next person along will likely tread that path. Others will follow until the path becomes easy and accessible for everybody.

If you pioneer a new model for society, everyone who joins in builds upon that model with their participation, ideas and innovations... until that model becomes the standard and the old, dysfunctional model becomes obsolete.

With #Mastodon, we have a functioning model of a new society in its early stage. As more people join in, the direction we need to take will become more apparent.

We all have that power... to create a #NewSociety.

“"Replacing gasoline-powered cars with EVs saves energy, regardless of the energy source used to recharge EVs." Please take note of the word "regardless," as that's how "coal-powered cars" are in fact cleaner than gas-powered cars. @edutooters
A period reminder that teaching is far more complex than using some tools or enacting some curriculum. Some would try to simplify it to that (many who have never taught for a day), but especially in this 'post Covid' time teaching has been especially complex and draining.
