@freemo Geographically speaking, we are Asians. But I have always wondered why we are not addressed as 'Asians' as much others (Chinese, Koreans etc). So I guess we are just 'Indians'
Like @_lunawinters mentioned, more than 150 languages are spoken (22 official), thousands, if not lakhs of different communities following different customs are present.
Not weird for a country with 1.3 BILLION population.
@freemo You're getting it right. But the thing is we don't have any particular culture that is followed uniformly throughout the country. Like the part where I am from (Kolkata), has more similarities with Bangladesh.
Similarly many on the western part has similarities with Pakistan when it comes to the way of living eating etc.
Here we say one thing: "Unity in diversity" (though in current conditions, it has been questioned many times)
Long post: Mastodon, newbies, an India server
+
I'm guessing that all of us newbies who've flooded in looking for a Twitter alternative should, sooner or later, build our own instance on a safe server.
It's a big plus for me that Mastodon's structure doesn't encourage the dangerous vanity of high follower counts/ celeb profiles. Smaller groups, focused on specific interests, with higher levels of trust: I could buy into that future.
What I find interesting, is that in India, there isn't a social norm of moving out of parent's house after 18, unlike many other countries.
Maybe because of the large population leading to high rates of housing.
I guess, that's another reason why our Desi parents want us to act like grown-ups but treat us like babies at the same time.
My maternal grandfather was asking me about the #AyodhyaVerdict and as soon as i told him about Muslim getting 5 acre land, he was done. A explained him 3 times what the verdict says. But for the past half hour, I've been listening to him saying how fked up our society is and how Muslims are getting all the benefits. S.M.H.
To all those who are disappointed with the #AYODHYAVERDICT : You aren't alone. They declared me a human being. Imagine how I'm feeling. #majorfail
What a peaceful life it is. No TV with Arnab shouting with politicians. No Twitter to make me go 'smh'. To all the #Indians here, please spend your day reading a book, watching Ted ed or Ted talks or just sleeping.
