@diegomagdaleno Welcome! Isn't it int16, though?
@pweisk The thing I don't want anyone to forget is that this guy also tried to weasel out of buying Twitter. History is already getting rewritten to portray him as a chessmaster.
But yeah, the question of whether he is a mad genius is somewhat independent of the danger, and it's important not to lose that thread.
@zkat 100%. I think I chose a poor home instance for the content I want, but all of the fediverse is also not the answer, nor is maintaining a bunch of separate accounts.
When I joined #mastodon, I just wanted an open-source #twitter clone.
I got more than that. Subtle design differences made for healthier conversations in ways I wasn't expecting.
Here's a blog post to try to capture those differences and why they matter. https://scott.mn/2022/10/29/twitter_features_mastodon_is_better_without/
What if Elon's overpayment for Twitter is a bargain? He now commands the attention of millions of people, who seem powerless to resist commenting on him, on the platform he owns.
I'm extremely weary of talking about him, but I think the dynamic of mass attention capture is alarming and worthy of comment. What does it mean for society's most connected people to be stuck in a mental vortex?
Also, 3 days into the Twitter takeover, it already looks like a complete shitshow. It's truly a peak Techbro moment. A lot of damage is going to be done. When it ends, I hope the myth of the Tony Stark techbro genius is put to rest.
Amplifying for reach.
Can someone help answer these accessibility questions for new Mastodon users?
This is pretty important, and will affect if I can keep recommending Mastodon as a platform.
I am now @acjay
