@joe @interfluidity I was trying to argue that laws need effort to be humane and useful. Shipping the responsibility off is the opposite of putting in the effort to be fair and humane.

Was i making fundamental errors in conveying that? Does it become clearer if you re-read my toots with this statement in mind?

@joe @interfluidity I don't see why enforcing reasonable, humane laws should be eschued in favour of sending someone to wherever.

Stating the fact that it is already done is fine, but what would be the reason to prioritize it?

Wer den eigenen Namen ohne dringenden Bedarf ändern möchte wird von mir verwirrt beäugt: die Bürokratie, der Papierkram... stell ich mir wahnsinnig anstrengend vor. @freemo @lucifargundam @louis Good discussion here so far. Everyone can have opinions, but which should have weight? Mainly with lucifar here, personal impact should determine this.

I'd like to add that fetuses "rights", be they legal or ethical rights, are usually viewed a bit short sighted.

A mere right to live does not reflect what the ethical consequences are, and a legal right without considering the actual consequences (after birth) runs afoul of the same ethical problem.

So i see two possibilities:
- guaranteeing a right to live and putting actual work behind the contextual issues: access to birth control (prevent unwanted pregnancy), timely access to abortion (important especially in case of rape), providing care for the birthed baby (not an unwilling mothers job), securing the ability of the growing human to actually lead a good life and not just subsist.
This i can take seriously as an opinion (even if i might disagree, depending on details).

- guaranteeing only the right to live, but just some hand waving at most for the rest of the issues.
In this case, i would have to assume the fetus rights are not the actual issue.

To summarize, if anyone who may or may not be up to the task is forced to do anything, the process is surely an unethical one. Claiming to act in stead of someone who does not have a voice needs diligence and foresight, or it is a false claim.

The first has mostly happened, the second i don't think it's doable without fundamentally redesigning the global economy.

But taking away citizenship is not a good idea to add to the toolbox of punishment. Just that someone is vile doesn't change that it is potentially ending one's ability to live. Do it for who you hate, open up the possibility to have it done to you or your loved ones.

@m0xee @Hyolobrika I was only talking about germany, as it is the only country i have a samples from. Between canadian "charter schools" and chinese concentration camps, there surely are enough examples where my points would not be valid.

@m0xee @Hyolobrika Also, while there are bad people as teachers, most of them want to do good and are simply resource constrained. So "state = school" is wrong, because there are real human beings that can oppose bad state influence, or interpret rules more humanely.

I have some contact to people in teaching, and there is good stuff there, even if a lot of the framework is pretty bad.

@Hyolobrika The sects that lizzy mentioned destroy their self esteem, the neonazis i mentioned make them (or try to) into more nazis.
Any further abuse is also a concern, as it is easier to notice with public schools - but not necessarily connected to the mentioned groups.

What is bad in general is not something that can be kept from people forever, so it's not making much of a difference if it's kept away during education.
