I will start recruitment soon, but for now, I'm looking for
- a lab manager who will build the new lab with me (namely the central pillar of my Dresden lab)
- a postdoctoral fellow interested in comparing tissue mechanics of organoids across species.
Please reach out to me. 3/

@ymilesz Tagging with to make your post more easily discoverable—fantastic paper above describing oak gall wasps of North America.

@ymilesz Welcome! Fascinating study subject: gall-forming parasitic wasps. Do you also touch on hyperparasites and endoparasitoids of gall wasps?

Introductory post: I'm an entomologist/evolutionary biologist that's interested in the evolution of Hymenoptera 🐝 🐜 , in particular gall inducing/ parasitic wasps. Currently I'm a Marie Curie fellow at the University of Edinburgh, using phylogenomics 🧬 , community ecology 💻 , and morphological taxonomy 🔬 to figure out who's who, and who eats who in tritrophic systems consisting of 🌹 -> 🌹gall wasps->their natural enemies.

Our gigantic pub on the arthropod associates of 155 North American cynipid oak galls is now freely available! We report rearing records from 527,306 galls representing 201 different oak gall types collected from 32 oak tree species in US + Canada.

@PessoaBrain @dickretired Areas are perhaps useful when one cannot have actual synaptic circuits, but are ultimately not satisfactory. In the fly brain, early work mimicked the anatomical approach in mammals, defining areas and ascribing meaning and function to them; once the cellular was done, areas faded fast other than for referring to large chunks of brain. The brain connectome is also around the corner. Lots of change ahead.

@jocelyn_etienne @npariente Quite the endorsement of @eLife ‘s new 2-column assessment: “As a metaresearcher studying peer review, I am struck by how vague the concept is. It conflates the evaluation of rigour with the curation of what deserves space in a journal.”

Just wanted to share a link to our #LongCOVID mechanisms, risk factors and recovery review that's just come out in Experimental Physiology. It was such a pleasure to work with so many excellent scientists on this - most of whom I haven't yet bumped into on mastodon.

No turkey!

I love turkeys—wild ones for watching, not eating—but they feel too daunting to draw (leaves and feathers are so much easier than birds 😬), so here’s a Thanksgiving #NorthernCardinal for those of you in the U.S…and a regular old cardinal for those of you elsewhere 😄

@oxley Beautiful photo and extraordinary meme potential!

@silverdory Looks like there are two fishes attached as bait ... quite the optical illusion. The lower left one has a very clear eye to the right and black caudal fin to the left.

I am enjoying reading lots of different introductions over the last days so I will hop on the train as well and introduce myself! 👋

I am a PhD student at the for motivation, action, and desire lab working with @nbkroemer 🧠

I am broadly interested in and in my PhD I am incorporating a metabolic perspective to understand how the influences neural communication, motivation and effort. 🏋️‍♂️

Many psychiatric disorders come along with both motivational and metabolic alterations so the gut-brain perspective might help us to better understand and treat disorders like 🎯

@CarpaccioDiScienza@mastodon.uno FYI I've used this website to generate the phonetics for known English words and then compose the phonetics of my made up alien name: tophonetics.com/

@CarpaccioDiScienza@mastodon.uno If you meant pronounce, I'd go for Vooje == "Fuuye" or /vʊʤiː/

If you're like me, then you were really happy to learn about Mastodon's enthusiastic support for image descriptions, and you were really eager to join in.

Then you went to actually write something and realized you have no idea how to present visual information in a way that is helpful/enjoyable to those who are #VisuallyImpaired or #Blind.

I found this guide really informative: uxdesign.cc/how-to-write-an-im

Of course, I'd also love to hear any additional tips y'all might have!

Hi! #introduction:

I'm a former #neuroscience postdoc who found herself too much of a generalist to stick to a specific research topic. I need the bigger picture! Still, I'll be forever fascinated by the 🧠 #brain, #connectomics, #neuroimaging, #neurobiology, #evolution, #cognition 🤩

I am now R&D manager at SAIA-Agrobotics.com, a #startup combining #greenhouse #horticulture, #ai and #robotics to fundamentally change greenhouse #automation 🌱🤖.
