For neuroscientists attending #sfn22: don’t miss the poster by Mitya Chklovskii’s group describing the completion status of the whole brain #connectome of the fairy wasp #Megaphragma, of expected completion early in 2022. Find the poster tomorrow Monday morning, number 328.16 / YY35.
Mitya kindly shared the poster image publicly elsewhere.
This tiny #wasp is famous for being the size of a large paramecium (a unicellular organism) and for enucleating the vast majority of its central neurons while pupating. The adult has less that 10,000 neurons in its central brain yet it isn’t missing any organ or body part. See the paper that jumpstarted this effort:

We’re looking for in vivo rodent electrophysiologists interested in complex behaviour to come and work in beautiful Glasgow. Advert to appear shortly, but meanwhile, if you’re interested and will be at at #sfn2022, come and find me! (Both postdoc and tenured positions available)a
I’m a postdoctoral scientist studying #imageanalysis 🔬at the Broad Institute.
Interested in #opensource software for #biology, #dataviz (mostly with #RStats ), and #videogames 🎮👾.
I love using my expertise to help generate biological insights from data. 📊

Focus on developing #opensource software & #ai tools for #bioimageanalysis - making complex analysis easier/better/possible
Hmm. I am usually the last to join a new technology/trend (refused cell phones for years, didn't want to upgrade from windows 3.11 to 95 😃 and kept Keynote9 for way too long). So moving to mastodon so early makes me nervous.
Consider this my @introduction. I am tentatively here :).
Computational neuroscientist by training (RL FTW), now comp psychiatry & psychotherapy (human behavior & individual diff FTW), and on sabbatical learning & practicing CBT! Lab @ Princeton full of wonderful people.
Apparently I’m supposed to post an #introduction so here we go - I’m Kate, an ex-pat Kiwi living in the UK since 1990 and a behavioural neuroscientist studying the neural basis of cognitive mapping. PhD with Richard Morris and postdoc with John O’Keefe, then own lab at UCL psychology in the IBN (Institute of Behavioural Neuroscience) for many years. Recently became Head of School, Psychology and Neuroscience at Glasgow. Married to Dr Axona, have 3 daughters and a grumpy cat.
The most common #woodpecker in the #Netherlands, our #GreatSpottedWoodpecker never the less it’s a very shy #bird but when you do #capture it... You’ll see how photogenic it really is.

@PLOSBiology Important counterpoint: #entomology needs funding, like a lot, and by yesterday. see:

In 2007 Ljubljana's mayor moved to make the city center car-free.
Since then:
- Driving share of city trips ⬇️ from 58% to 39%
- Walking share of trips ⬆️ from 19% to 35%
- Air pollution ⬇️ 70%
Now 97% of residents want city center to remain car-free

Hi all! It's time for an #introduction and first preprint post!
I'm a new assistant professor at Utrecht University. My group uses #biochemistry, #cryoEM and molecular #virology to study cellular entry, replication and assembly of clinically important pathogens such as enteroviruses and coronaviruses.
In our most recent @biorxivpreprint, we describe the selection and structural characterization of a macrocyclic peptide inhibitor of the SARS-CoV-2 spike glycoprotein!
Hi lovely people, just landed here. Looking forward to nice interactions. From Patagonia, Argentina, leading a lab at Birmingham University, UK. #neuroscience #drosophila #decision-making #action-selection
Is there a way to see my timeline with only what the people I’m following are saying, without what they are boosting? One can silence boosts for individual people, but that is a different feature. Thanks for any hints. #mastodon
How does the brain work? Someday, we'll figure it out.
