Emacs: use-package xdg-state keyword

@ross  is this something you are working on, something new in emacs, or some new unnamed package?

@shapr If I'm on linux I usually try the compose key a few times before giving up. Still undecided if the whole compose key idea is a good one, I can waste a lot of time guessing what the "intuitive" sequence is for a character. This is often futile, for example, someone decided that .= is a bullet • character. It took me a while to see the connection. On the other hand it only took a few guesses to find compose-s-o for §.

@rust I'd probably lean toward "y" as Y is relative luminance at least in the CIE XYZ colorspace, but it's not a perfect fit.

@ditherycarbon yeah I really don’t get the org mode fetish either. I’ve been using emacs for 9 years now. Org mode never really clicked for me.

@mjgardner Nothing to be sorry about, the RSI healed and the pain went away, and both tools have been absolute gifts.

@mjgardner This is literally the reason I use vim and Emacs (yes both, but mainly Emacs now). Decades ago I got RSI in my right wrist from reaching for the mouse while coding.

@louis@emacs.ch There's something on r/emacs about it, including alternatives, basically it appears the author no longer uses it so didn't want to maintain it. It should IMO be moved to the emacs orphanage (github.com/emacsorphanage), I don't know what that process is though.

@levisan Yeah I think it helps. There's some guy in Portugal (I think) that has been using my email by accident for like 20 years now. I'm guessing it's pretty close to his, and I've gotten some pretty important looking correspondence because of it, as well as a steady stream of verification emails. I tried to get a clue to him via the 3rd parties that emailed me, but it didn't help, and now I just ignore it. I guess he wonders why computers don't work very well for him, but at least I don't get email from those companies after the first one.

@birv2 I use github.com/astrada/google-driv I dunno if there's a mint package for it, but there's a ubuntu ppa. Never used rclone, so I don't know if one is better than the other.

@awoodsnet It's a thing. There are dozens of us! DOZENS!

@danielsreichenbach @mo8it so -j N will make it work for some N. Probably cargo should be a little smarter when system memory is limited and pick a smaller N and this doesn’t sound very difficult to fix.

@danielsreichenbach @mo8it how many threads is it using to build? I’m guessing the default isn’t one.

@bonifartius @cnx It's actually fairly straightforward if they are using FetchContent, there's a directory in the build directory (usually _deps) that holds all of them. If not I feel your pain.

Most of the problem with cmake after the syntax (which I agree is horrid) is the fact that it's a old project with a lot of things you can use, but probably shouldn't because they've added better things. And anything explaining the best things to use is a book you have to pay for.

@dpiponi had a fun one the other day. The passcode expired in 10 minutes but it took 15 to 30 minutes to arrive.

@brokenix@emacs.ch Pretty old news, isn't it? Drew doesn't want to change, that's fine, it's not Melpa's fault.

@azonenberg @cliffle I dunno, that particular person (who made the comment on hn) doesn't seem to have anything to do with consumer electronics, at least according to the links on his profile. Not even much embedded that I can tell. I think he's mainly just a troll.
