Flagship Liverpool hydrogen buses out of action due to 'problems with global H2 supply' #ev #hydrogen
Green hydrogen is unaffected by this issue, but it highlights how much hydrogen is reliant on fossil fuels. Grey hydrogen is “more polluting wheel to well than diesel”

He actually said the "least expensive" way to produce hydrogen is to crack the hydrogen atoms off hydrocarbons, and he's right. SMR is the cheapest, liberating all the H2 from the CH4 and all the H2 from the water.
Personally I don't care for hydrogen. Direct renewable electricity generation, its storage, use in domestic heating and transport is what I find exciting and enjoy reading about. Hydrogen is a distraction.
Happy #LaborDay everyone.
Let me take this small space to remind everyone that wages are to wealth as weather is to climate.
The fact that someone would pay me 3x what I paid for my house does not in any way change the utility of my house for me, but it does triple my wealth.
@georgetakei Please also remember all those working retail jobs today. They are working so you will have places to go and things to purchase on your day off.
This market analysis makes sense to me. #Hydrogen is only a viable option for transport whenever batteries are technically not feasible. The cost of operating and maintaining #FCEV technology almost always outweighs the benefits – and there’s no reason to believe that scaling up will fundamentally change the outcome

@KimPerales I follow the #EV hashtag on Mastodon and I keep seeing links to "[Stop the EV jobs bloodbath](https://www.wsws.org/en/articles/2023/08/30/dlmm-a30.html)" It really seems like someone is trying to pitch the idea that the EV transition is bad for labor. What I can't figure out is if this is from the UAW members themselves or Big Oil trying to co-opt the labor movement to slow down EV production.
@icanbob There are no viable solutions to the climate crisis that do not account for consumer costs. This is an economic crisis and we must consider the economic impact of proposed solutions.
@mackaj This is precisely my point. Fossil fuel companies hold out the bright future of "blue hydrogen" as a way to try to keep their product in the transportation sector, but today, and over the next 10 years when reducing atmospheric carbon is the most critical, hydrogen will be no better than gasoline in terms of carbon output.

Comments from a Native Californian
California is good match at the state level. Understand that it is a large and diverse state and that the central valley is not generally LGBTQ friendly or climate forward - though of course there are many allies there as there are in other majority conservative areas.
The San Francisco Bay Area is wonderful, but expensive. It depends on whether you can get one of the high salary jobs in the area. Kind of a rough employment market in the Tech sector at the moment.
LA is enormous (even people from NYC find it overwhelming) If huge urban centers are your thing there is a place for everyone in LA. Just understand that while the Bay Area is politically and culturally Homogeneous, LA is packed with communities of every strip and creed. No matter who you are "your people" are there, but so is *everybody* else.
California has some great "small cities" and "college towns." Eurika/Arcada is an enchanted place, but isolated. I lived in Sacramento for 19 years and my only complaint was that it was too big for this country mouse. Davis, Santa Barbara, and San Luis Obispo should be on your list if you like college towns. San Diego has nice weather, but IMHO is not worth that price of admission.
Also do you have school age children? California's public education system has some real quirks, and there are some places that while otherwise awesome, have some of the most troubled public schools in the country.

If #EVs are less complex and take less labor to manufacture, why is that a problem? It sounds like a better product to me.
Last update from the on-site #BurningMan radio station is all entrances/movement still shut down, shelter in place, "it will get cold tonight". Also asking people either RVs to let people without RVs share their space (ie muddy tent dwellers). Also a message saying no one else will be allowed into the site for the remainder of the event, and not to come. #mud 2023-09-02 1230PM
@WillRobinson carpenters, plumbers, electricians, contractors, and auto mechanics are all looking at this and shaking their heads.
@erinwhalen The fossil fuel industry seems to have adopted the strategy of denigrating alternative technologies. I'm seeing the same thing happening in the #EV space.
