The power went out. I'm isolating because of I have Covid. Can't cook; can't heat the place. No one to play board games with by candlelight and our usual thing of driving to a restaurant that has power probably isn't respectful of community health. 😫

Happy New Years Western Europe and Central Africa.

Seriously though, fedi was *built* by furries, trans and queer folk, disabled neurodivergent people.
This is *the reason* the culture here is what it is. Why CWs are a thing. Why image descriptions are a thing. Why privacy matters here. Why moderation tools not only exist, but are usable — and used.
If you had joined and asked yourself "wow, how come this place is so chill and kinda… nice?" — that's thanks to all the nice people from communities some people call "weird".

The #Southwest flight cancellation isn't only affecting travelers.
My #TMS clinic cancelled my daily treatments this week because my doctor is stranded somewhere on the East coast. 🫤
If you are watching the #Southwest meltdown and thinking about the calamity that is caused by needing several days to reposition the system, just remember that the US freight railroad system is *far* more brittle. A rail strike that congress forestalled would have created a similar but much more extensive backlog that would have taken months to unravel. And in case you are thinking "well I don't travel by rail" just remember that something like three quarters of all retail goods do.
