#introduction I am a mathematician and cognitive scientist by training and troublemaker by inclination. I have been following the mastodon universe from the sidelines for a while now but a recent article made me create an account at one mastodon site which led to the next one and the next one and since then I have been following a trail of interesting sites and people.
As a complete n00b here, I am at your mercy. Tell me what I should know and who I should follow!
@arkayar That's a great write-up.
Beware, though, there certainly is an outrage machine out there.
I at one point go into a back-and-forth that I disagree with today's pronoun shenanigans.
The machine found me, chewed me up, and spat me out.
Some instances, also, want to be their own echo-chamber, keeping out competing ideas.
Qoto.org is not one of those instances, it seems. I see a lot of good discourse.
@StrikerD got it. Thanks for the tip.
@arkayar Welcome aboard!
@arkayar Awesome. I was just saying I'd love to see some more pure scientists here. It is wonderful to see you! Cant wait to hear your contributions. BTW we are one of only a few servers that support math latex in posts.
@freemo awesome. Looking forward to interacting more with the people here
@arkayar Weve got a great group here. Very rational, caring, and accepting. Most are scientists. All around good crowd.
@arjankoole @larand thanks for the tip!
@arjankoole Thanks for the kind words--be advised that my main account is at @larand at mastodon.xyz. That's where I'm posting these days.
@arkayar Hi arkayar, it's good to have you here :)
@black_sun thanks for the welcome!
@arkayar I’m a greenie too!! Read Wired article. {Which is probably a “pedestrian” publication to most of the STEM folks here}.
I am curious to know if the joins have increased due to the spotlight? I hope this does not cause a watered down effect/vibe for the charter members....
We are here now! :) welcome welcome!
@arkayar Which article?
